The key is the Moly2000’s ductility, which proved to offer durable wear rate, the initial and final coefficient of friction, heat transfer and lubricity. Blau, Tribological Characteristics of Electrolytic Coatings for Aluminum Engine Cylinder Lining Applications, SAE Technical Paper Series) has proven the average volume for gray cast iron (0.059mm3) was an order of magnitude higher than that of nikasil specimens. Along with the insignificant wear, the honing pattern for gray iron specimen (vs. nikasil specimen) was visible in the wear track and no wear debris was detected.
