23.01.2022 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! WANT TO HELP SAVE A LIFE? We're looking for people to help us treat wombats.... There are a few places in Tasmania where we do not have nearby treaters, but we are receiving reports of wombats with mange: Current priority locations are: - Rossarden - Blessington - Deddington - Mathinna - Dunalley - Sheffield - Orielton - St Helens - Sorell - East Coast We are also accepting any volunteers from anywhere else in the state. Volunteering as a treater is not easy. It requires dedication, hard work, and emotional strength, but it is also very rewarding. As a volunteer you will need to be able to be available at least one day a week, but that day is entirely up to you (although the wombat's behavior usually dictate when we go out). We will provide you with training, resources and support. All you need to do is put your hand up . If you would like to help out but maybe not in the field, there are plenty of other volunteer positions available "behind the scenes", such as fundraising, holding market stalls, admin, transporting treatment kits etc... If you think you can help us, email us at [email protected].

22.01.2022 GREEN WASTE COLLECTION WEIGHT LIMITS and why there are not more green waste collections during spring? Clarence City Council’s response: There is a maximum green waste bin weight limit of 110KG that our waste contractor Veolia is able to safely collect during our residential collection service. Where collection is not able to take place, a notice is affixed to the bin advising the rejection reason and promoting contact with council to discuss alternative ar...rangements. We discuss with residents removing a portion of the content weight prior to arranging a fresh collection the following week aligned to the resident’s general waste collection day. Residential green waste collection service and the bin collection charges levied to residents are established by council, based currently on a once per month collection cycle. For residents who require additional collections, an additional bin can be purchased on request to Council to achieve an increase collection capacity within the monthly collection cycle. This ensures the additional cost of these collections are being incurred only to the residents availing of this requirement. Currently council is not looking to increase the collection of green waste services. The State Government is currently developing a state-wide waste action plan and Council is expected to progress a broader review of its waste strategy next year. Community engagement will be an important part of developing Council’s waste strategy and it will be broadly promoted allowing residents to provide their input. See more
