25.01.2022 From zero to hero! Gold Coast Rotary has one of the highest membership growth rates in Australia over the past three years. However, this was not always the case. After 5 years of nil growth and declining membership, the clubs leadership realised that to attract members it needed to be a more attractive club. Initially the club made changes such as switching to fortnightly meetings and introducing regular social events but this still didnt result in growth.... The club then decided to put in place a membership strategy: 1. Surveying their members using Rotarys member satisfaction survey. They found that almost half of their members were not satisfied with 7 out of the 10 measurements. This gave them ideas of areas to work on. 2. Asking questions such as: where do we want to be in 3 years time? what characteristics define us? how do we see ourselves and others see us? 3. Creating a strong vision: They knew they wanted to be the number one choice on the Gold Coast for service, networking, as well as leadership and development. 4. Put together a 3 year plan with goals for each year. Some of their goals included establishing a membership committee and developing a mentor program. The club has had a net increase of 27 members over the last three years, a dramatic improvement in member satisfaction in all 10 measurements and a bright future.

20.01.2022 Looking forward this Rotary Membership Month. Paul Harris said we have to be revolutionary from time to time. Now is the time to be revolutionary! One way to do this is by creating new club models and rethinking what it means to be in Rotary. Research shows a link between membership growth, new clubs and different models. We need to start clubs not only in areas where there are no Rotary clubs, but in areas where potential members are either unable or unwilling to join exist...ing clubs. In the New Style Rotary Clubs Forum webinar series next month you will get to engage with a range of local speakers who will share their knowledge and experience: why, how, successes and lessons learned. 14.01.2022 President Holger Knaack is encouraging Rotary members to seize the many opportunities Rotary offers to enrich their lives and the communities they serve. President Holger's key messages for clubs include: 1. The district will be actively at work creating new, innovative club models and will need your support. In addition, you can also help us expand our reach by creating a satellite club and by forming a community-based Rotaract club.... 2. Every club should host at least one strategic meeting each year at which you ask: What should our club be like in five years and what steps should we take to help achieve that vision? What value do we bring our members? Select someone to lead that effort. 3. Select new members carefully. Make sure that they are a good fit with your club and that your club meets their expectations. Engage them and take care of them. There is no wrong age to become a Rotarian. 4. Continue your clubs efforts to end polio by donating to End Polio Now and by hosting a World Polio Day event in October. We must fulfill the promise that we made to the children of this world. You can shop locally and support a fellow Rotarian. Plus, 10% of sales go to Rotary International to support operations. Take a look at the site below for Oceania vendors.

08.01.2022 MEMBERSHIP MONTH INSPO! Chartering a new style Rotary club during a pandemic yes it can be done! The Rolleston Rotary Club, 30 mins west of Christchurch, NZ chartered at the end of May just as the city was coming out of lockdown. 23 members, most aged under 40 with an even gender balance, are united by a desire to give back to their community. The club is not your usual dinner and speaker club and meet fortnightly to discuss projects and activities, and occasionally inv...ite a guest speaker to help them better understand the project they are working on. D9970 District Membership Chair Arie Geerlofs believes the club was formed after recognising a gap. Rolleston is a growing community, with more than 18,000 people and a popular community Facebook page. Working with local council, we realised that people aged 25-34 needed a community outlet. The clubs' emphasis is on supporting the underprivileged and families in need. Theyve already secured a government grant and have taken part in in local fundraising events.
