23.01.2022 AN IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR FP COMMUNITY As you may have seen in local and national media, due to some increasing in Covid cases in the Queensland South-East co...rner in the past fortnight, major events are now potentially a greater risk to the greater community. While we initially proposed to reboot our 2020 Festival as a one-day one-off Market Day, we have taken advice from a number of sources and have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 event. For the past three years, Maryborough State High School Diploma of Business students have produced a triple award winning festival for the Fraser Coast. We have received guests from as far afield as Sydney and Townsville; from humble beginnings, our Pop Culture Festival has become the nation’s largest two-day not for profit pop culture festival something we are immensely proud of. Maryborough State High School and the FraserPop team care deeply for our community and as a result we could not place the Fraser Coast or the South-East corner at any increased risk. We were hopeful that the Covid situation in Queensland would be acceptable for our event, a Pinch of PopCulture on September 12, however with only two weeks until that date uncertainty about current events have led us to the decision for cancellation. Our Facebook page will look at some events online, but there will be no on-site event for 2020. This will include completing our Cosplay Online Event, with registration now occurring online (registration details will follow) and an online marketplace for all vendors so we can showcase our loyal stall holders and direct internet traffic to you, our FraserPop fans. As Arnie would say, ‘We’ll be back’. See you back in Maryborough (we hope!!) in 2021.

21.01.2022 Given the Qld Premier’s announcement at 11:30am today that South East Queensland, Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island will go into lockdown from 6pm t...oday until 6pm Friday 2nd July, the Board of the Abbey Medieval Festival has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 event. The announcement of the 3-day lockdown by the Queensland Government has impacted on our ability to adequately prepare for the festival. Those preparations include infrastructure on the site and the travel/setup plans of the reenactors and volunteers. The festival is the major fundraiser for the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology and the decision to cancel it has come at a significant financial cost. With the health and well being of the community at stake and the government restrictions in place it was the only prudent course of action we could take. It is a devastating blow to the Museum to have to cancel the Abbey Medieval Festival for a second year. We were very hopeful that a successful festival this year would put us back on a positive footing. We will begin processing refunds to ticketholders as soon as possible, please be patient as we work through this. Following last year’s cancellation many of our ticketholders generously donated their ticket purchase to the Museum instead of receiving a refund. We are grateful of any of this year’s ticketholders that choose to do the same. Any donations made to the Abbey Museum are tax deductible. We understand that many of our visitors will be disappointed with another year without the Festival and we can assure everyone that our team, volunteers and reenactors have similar feelings. We will be exploring the future of the festival and other events in the coming months and look forward to your support.
