These patrols aimed to bolster the policing response to rural and remote NSW, with a broad policing scope. Police took the opportunity to speak with local land owners and conducted a public engagement activity at a local café on the Saturday. As a result of the patrols, one charge was laid for firearms offences, two infringements were given for offensive behaviour, eight safe storage inspections were undertaken, and two cars and one person were searched. Police also inspected critical infrastructure, local licensed premises, travelling stock and rural properties. Detective Sergeant Damian Nott from the Rural Crime Prevention Team said this kind of activity will continue across the state. Members of the rural and remote NSW can expect to see more of their specialist Rural Crime Investigators and their local police in a rural setting and this type of collaborative effort which really is aimed at providing a higher standard of service to those who rarely see police. 16.01.2022 As the state responds to a new threat of coronavirus, with stay-at-home restrictions in place, the NSW Police Force is committed to supporting and protecting vi...ctims of domestic and family violence during the pandemic. On Saturday 26 June 2021, the NSW Government announced wider stay-at-home directions for Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour. This means that anyone who lives in, works in or studies in these local government areas must follow the stay-at-home rules for 14 days until 11.59pm on Friday 9 July 2021 unless they have a reasonable excuse. Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, said police are committed to protecting victims and will increase efforts to combat violence in the home following the government’s latest stay-at-home order. Fleeing a violent or an abusive relationship, or seeking domestic and family violence-related services, is a reasonable excuse to leave your home, Mr Elliott said. While officers will continue to protect the community by ensuring the public complies with public health orders, domestic violence victims will also be a paramount concern with police conducting thousands of Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) compliance checks to keep victims safe. Attorney General and Minister for Prevention of Domestic and Sexual Violence Mark Speakman said the State’s dedicated frontline services would remain at the ready to support victim-survivors if they’re escaping abuse. We want to be abundantly clear that stay-at-home COVID-19 orders do not apply if you’re fleeing violence and abuse in your household, Mr Speakman said. Victim-survivors and their children can be confident that domestic violence support services and the police are still only a phone call away during lockdown, so if you need help please contact them when it’s safe to do so. Assistant Commissioner Leanne McCusker APM, Corporate Sponsor Domestic and Family Violence said police and frontline services are ready to provide support to anyone fleeing domestic and family violence during the latest stay-at-home orders. Domestic and family violence is a crime, and across the state, our officers continue to target high-risk and repeat offenders under the Suspect Target Management Plan and High Risk Offender Team to ensure they are complying with the conditions of their Apprehended Domestic Violence order, said Assistant Commissioner McCusker. We have not changed the way we police DV offences. We are committed to helping victims of domestic violence and police will not hesitate in bringing offenders to justice. Since June 2019, the NSWPF has significantly increased proactive measures to detect and prevent DV offending, including a 79% increase in the number of ADVO compliance checks undertaken by police. Last year also saw police commence over 36,600 charge files for domestic violence offences and issue more than 40,000 applications for ADVOs. Other lawful reasons to leave your place of residence include to: provide care or assistance (including personal care) to a vulnerable person or to provide emergency assistance; access social services, employment services, services provided to victims (including as victims of crime), domestic violence services, and mental health services; move to a new place of residence, or between your different places of residence; undertake legal obligations; avoid injury or illness or to escape the risk of harm. Anyone experiencing domestic or family violence should report to police or utilise the other support services that are available, including: 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) - a confidential information, counselling and support service; NSW Domestic Violence Line (1800 65 64 63) - a state-wide telephone crisis counselling and referral service for women; Men’s Referral Service (1300 766 491) - provide telephone counselling, information and referrals for men; Link2Home (1800 152 152) - can help refer women experiencing domestic violence to crisis accommodation; and Lifeline (13 11 14) - a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. It’s relatively inexpensive to put a good lock on your letterbox and ask someone you trust to empty it regularly or organise to have your mail held at your local post office while your'e away. 06.01.2022 The NSW Government, together with the NSW Police Force, has announced a $1 million reward for information into the murder of Hunter woman, Melissa Hunt, more th...an 26 years ago. The body of Melissa Hunt, then aged 22, was found near the weir wall of Burrenjim Dam, Bluegum Creek via Stockrington, on Monday 25 April 1994. A post mortem examination revealed she died from severe head injuries. Strike Force Impey, comprised of detectives from the Lake Macquarie Police District and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, was formed to investigate her death; however, no arrests have been made. Following a Coronial Inquest in 1998, the matter was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and referred to the Unsolved Homicide Unit. A formal review of the investigation was conducted under the new unsolved framework and is now under reinvestigation by detectives attached to Strike Force Circulo. As inquiries continue, police are renewing their appeal to the community to come forward with any information that may assist detectives with their investigation. Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, said he hopes the $1 million NSW Government incentive will bring detectives a step closer to finding answers for Melissa’s family. The NSW Government pledges a $1 million reward in the hope that it will assist police in their efforts to get to the bottom of this horrific crime, and that it will go some way in delivering justice for Melissa and her family, Mr Elliott said. The community will not, and should not, forget the tragic circumstances surrounding Melissa’s disappearance almost three decades ago. I urge anyone with even the seemingly smallest piece of information to come forward. Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said Strike Force Circulo investigators have conducted a thorough review of the case to explore all possible lines of inquiry. In October this year, officers returned to the Burrenjim Dam with specialist police from the Forensic Evidence and Technical Services Command to conduct a full review of the original crime scene, Det Supt Doherty said. Items of interest that were recovered during initial inquiries have also undergone further forensic testing, to ensure every avenue of investigation is identified and pursued. Detectives have also been liaising with interstate law enforcement partners as we believe there are associates and witnesses residing in other states including Queensland, Victoria and South Australia that are yet to come forward and speak with police. As inquiries into Melissa’s death continue, detectives are urging anyone with information to contact police so we may provide much-needed answers and closure for Melissa’s family, Det Supt Doherty said. Melissa’s brother, Mr Peter Hallett, said he hoped the reward may help detectives uncover new leads to finally provide justice for his sister and family. Melissa was deeply loved by our family and we have never stopped missing her and desperately wishing that her life had not been cut short, Mr Hallett said. We should not just have memories of Melissa’s beautiful dark eyes, her mischievous laugh, musical talent, eye for detail, passion for writing and fierce love for her family and two children we should all be able to hold her now. After 26 years of despairing grief, we are hoping that someone will come forward and help police identify those responsible for her death. Melissa was robbed of her life and of her right to know and love her children, and as a family we cannot rest until justice is served, Mr Hallett said. Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Circulo detectives is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
