12.01.2022 Firefighters and aircraft are working on a grass fire burning on the Urana-Lockhart Road. The fire is burning in the area of Webbs Lane, to the east of Urana. Strong winds are being experienced and the smoke can be seen from some distance away.

11.01.2022 A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing. During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire. General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.... The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property. Under certain conditions, the NSW RFS may issue a Harvest Safety Alert.

11.01.2022 Riverina Zone Aviation Brigade Stood Up As a part of our pre-incident planning the Riverina Zone Aviation Brigade has today stood up with personnel on hand to refill aircraft in the event that we see any ignitions. Today we have two Air Tractor AT -802's and two helicopters available should the need arise.

10.01.2022 Haystack Fire Unfortunately overnight in the Riverina Zone a local farmer lost their hayshed and a significant volume of hay to fire. With vast quantities of hay having recently been cut and baled along with the above average rainfall being experienced it is inevitable that we will see more hay fires going into summer.... Spontaneous combustion occurs when moist hay heats up due to a combination of natural microbial and chemical reactions. If enough air (oxygen) is present the moist hay may get hot enough to ignite, with fire then spreading through the stack or shed. Remember: Check your haystack by inserting a metal rod or stake into the hay. If the rod or stake comes out and is hot, you may have a problem. Regularly inspect haystacks, particularly in hay sheds. If possible store your hay in several locations on your property. Try to avoid storing machinery in the same shed; and Maintain firebreaks around your stored haystacks.

06.01.2022 Header Fire Unfortunately this is a timely reminder that the fire season has arrived. Fortunately this property owner had a private fire truck nearby and was able to save their crop.... #FarmFireSafety #HowReadyAreYou

05.01.2022 Illabo Fire Trail The Illabo fire trail is 90% completed, all that is required is the construction of an exit out onto the Olympic Way and the installation of signage. The trail is situated on the north/western and northern boundaries of the village and will now form a fire break as well as a trafficable surface that fire trucks can fight fires from should the village be threatened by fire in the future.... Thanks Junee Shire Council and Smart Construction & Civil keep up the great work
