06.01.2022 I often see people searching for a tradie that "doesn't charge an arm and a leg" and I get it, their services can be costly. But here's the full story... - Tradies who run their own business have spent years attaining the skills/resources required to do their job and have done so on pretty low wages (especially in the beginning) - The tools required are numerous, expensive and regularly need repairs or replacement not to mention the trailers and vehicles needed to lug them al...l around. - Time to quote, order and pick up materials, drive to and from jobs all adds up. - There's numerous associated costs too; insurances (public liability, income protection, workers comp, vehicles), regos/licences, advertising, admin work... the list goes on! - They don't get paid overtime when working after hours or on weekends. - No sick leave, no annual leave, no paternity/maternity leave... nothing. If they or their staff aren't working, the money STOPS. So if you've just gone back to work today after having some paid time off over the holidays, take a minute to think of those who in order to spend time with their families have done so unpaid. And when looking at your next tradie quote, try and remember all the things not listed on it that have contributed to that price. Sure, like ANY PROFESSION there are some that will over quote... But for all the GREAT tradies out there who slog it out in all kinds of weather & conditions and do the right thing by their customers; in my opinion you are priceless.
