09.01.2022 Did you know....... In 1905, Lloyd's of London helped a man with his wedding plans. He was poor, married to an heiress and needed to pay for a few things for their big day. A moneylender agreed to loan him 500 but only on the agreement that he insured the marriage at Lloyd's. A broker was seen who made investigations into the bona-fides of the engagement before agreeing to insure their nuptials for 500 at 10%.... The uncle of another heiress also discussed marriage at Lloyd's a few years later, in 1914. He was paying for the wedding and had heard that his niece may elope with another man. He subsequently took out a policy for 10,000 guineas against her doing so before a specified date. That same year, a man paid 800 guineas for a policy at Lloyd's. He was being sued for damages for 'breach of promise to marry' and it was to cover any amount that the jury awarded the plaintiff. After the case ended, she was awarded 700. In 1938, actor Wayne Morris and his partner, actress Priscilla Lane took out a $50,000 policy at Lloyd's that protected their relationship against the 'subversive influences of Hollywood, scandal mongers and other vicious forces.'
