16.05.2022 IMPORTANT SCHOOLS UPDATE: There are two key messages here, one about today and one about tomorrow. TODAY:... Given the very dangerous and unpredictable weather event currently occurring in south east Queensland, if you are a parent or carer with a student at school, or a child in an early childhood centre, in one of the below areas please collect them as soon as it is safe to do so. - the northern Moreton Bay region - Sunshine Coast - Gympie - Wide Bay up to Bundaberg Other schools and centres will make local decisions depending on specific circumstances; please look out for updates from them. If you live outside of the listed regions and would prefer to collect your child early today, you can of course choose to do that. TOMORROW: Across ALL of south east Queensland, schools that can safely open tomorrow will. However they will only be open to children of essential workers and children experiencing vulnerability. Our message is that students should stay at home wherever possible though, and if you don’t need to be out on the roads, don’t be. Safety of students and staff is of course paramount, and this weather is of serious concern. Please listen into your local media stations and follow BOM warnings so you have all of the latest information, and stay safe. http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings https://closures.qld.edu.au/

30.04.2022 We hope all our families are safe and dry. We are open as usual tomorrow at this stage. If things change over the course of the afternoon / night we will update you here. Stay safe and if it’s flooded - forget it.

10.04.2022 Merry Christmas to all our families at Riversdale! Just remember on your way out today - to grab some reindeer food or anything you think Santa, his Elves or his Reindeers might like - we love sharing the joy especially on Christmas Eve. Big thanks to Miss Kylie for reminding us how special these little treats are for the children to create a connection with their magical friends like Santa & co and their families - hopefully we saved you one job tonight

19.03.2022 We’re hiring @ Riversdale Early Learning! Are you an experienced Diploma Qualified or Certificate Three Educator who loves to form strong connections with children, families and your team? Here’s a little about our Philosophy if it feels like the right fit for you pop in and drop your resume off:... We believe children are all individuals and they need to be encouraged to discover and reach their full potential. To achieve this they need a loving, stimulating & non-threatening environment, which nurtures and challenges each individual child. All children should be supported to achieve a sense of belonging. Our centre values the importance of the first six years of life, which is so important for children’s learning and brain development. We plan to provide the children in our care with the opportunity to explore, learn, plan, predict, hypothesize, create, develop friendships and develop in all areas through play, positive guidance, inquiry teaching, intentional teaching and praise. We value all children as unique individuals and recognise that, as professional Early Childhood Educators, we have the ability to influence the children’s lives in a very positive way. At Riversdale we pride ourselves in creating a family of educators who are passionate about providing a warm, inviting learning environment where children feel secure and a sense of belonging. We’re not looking for Educators to simply ‘tick the boxes’ we’re looking for those people who can make genuine day-to-day connections with children and anyone they come into contact with throughout their time here at Riversdale. Special qualities we look for in our educators - You’ll be warm, caring and nurturing, with a passion for supporting children and their families along their learning journey. - A love of creating engaging environments for children. - A team player with the ability to work in unison with your fellow educators. - A willingness to learn and extend your knowledge. - Align with our philosophy and ideals. - A professional work ethic. - A natural sense of empathy and compassion for others - Solution focused and problem solver - Reliable and punctual If you feel like this is you please send your resume and cover letter to [email protected], or pop in, say hello and drop off your resume we’d love to meet you. 10.03.2022 Do you ever hear yourself say ‘I can’t draw’, ‘I can’t paint’ or ‘I’m not creative’? WellInternational Dot Day is for people just like you and me who have uttered these words before it stems from a beautiful story by Peter.H. Reynolds simply called ‘the dot’. Where a little girl thinks she can’t draw until her teacher inspires her to simply draw a dot. When she sees her dot framed as beautiful artwork, she knows she’s made her mark. Little Vashti passes this same message...Continue reading

02.03.2022 WHITE BALLOON DAY 2021 @ RIVERSDALE On Friday 10th September we joined together with our families and children to play our part in the legacy of White Balloon Day. As always, the children used this for colour identification dressing up in white! And rather than using balloons on this day, many of our rooms found their own creative way to develop their own balloons through crafting so we could reduce balloons in the environment and be ‘balloon smart’. ...Continue reading

20.02.2022 On Thursday 9th September we joined together to spread the word around R U OK? DAY. Such an important reminder to check in with those around us to make sure they are okay, and we love how this movement is now taking it a step further to promote tools and ‘real actions’ we can do to connect with those around us. On R U OK? Day. Today and every day we ask you to keep this movement going. We know this is a very dear message to some of our Riversdale families who have been im...Continue reading

31.01.2022 To all our beautiful families... please grab an R U OK? Day cookie and lucky-dip for an inspirational quote - who knows it may just be the one you need to hear today

24.01.2022 All the children did such a wonderful job of tapping into their inner 'super-powers' this week and of course dressing up as much as they liked to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy! Thanks again families for getting on board with this...

21.01.2022 Today is 'National Australian Flag Day' and our Kindergarten children did their research to find out that the Australian Flag was designed by a 'flag design competition'. So they ran their own little design session for flags within their room. We love how you can see their own unique take on what the Australian Flag should be.These are now displayed in our foyer - so remember to duck as you come in towards the rooms. We also have large-scale Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags out and about today across our rooms. The children are looking forward to playing some ball games using the flags this afternoon for outdoor play. What great designers our Kindergarten children are - we think they'd have a good chance of winning if Australia ever had another competition for a new & revamped Australian Flag!

20.01.2022 Just a reminder that tomorrow - Friday 30th October, we’re inviting all children to wear red & donate gold coins in support of ‘Day for Daniel’ (unless your room has their Halloween Festivities on in which case dress spooky!) #dayfordaniel #danielmarcombefoundation @ DanielMarcombeFoundation

18.01.2022 Keep our children safe. Look Before You Lock. Every time. Without fail.

14.01.2022 Thank you to all our families who came along to our Father's Day Sports afternoon on Friday at Riversdale. It was beautiful to have you all back enjoying our outdoor areas again. We're not sure who enjoyed all the games more - the adults or the children.... there were Sack Races, Connect Four, Rugby Tag, Bowling, Soccer, Table Tennis, Giant Jenga, Giant Noughts & Crosses, Hop Scotch, Ball Games, Limbo and of course the famous Aussie Sausage Sizzle to enjoy!

14.01.2022 Thank you to all our families & children for spoiling our 'Rock-star' Educators today on their special day. We are so proud of the love & passion these Educators share with the children each & everyday. And we're so grateful to have them as part of our Riversdale family. A big thanks to Miss Kylie, Miss Bec & Miss Nadeen & Miss Emma for our stunning gifts (artisan soaps, chocolates & mindfulness tea), and the very special personal hand-written note to help us reflect on all that we contribute to this beautiful space for children).

13.01.2022 A big thank you to all our families and children for your gold coin donations and dressing in red on Friday to support our 'Day for Daniel' event - together we raised $93! 'Day for Daniel' is Australia's largest day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. The Daniel Marcombe foundation provides personal child safety education to children & young people to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health & well-being. We thought all our children and Educators looked amazing in red and we're so grateful for everyone's support towards such a worthy fund-raiser!

12.01.2022 A very simple but very important message for our children to learn. One that ties both our 'Superhero Week' and 'Child Protection Week' focus together so nicely... we're looking forward to our Kindergarten group exploring more of these 'positive affirmation' cards from 'I am me'

12.01.2022 It's almost time! SWELL Sculpture Festival is less than 24 hours away. Who are you heading along with?

11.01.2022 We love our books here @ Riversdale, they're such good conversation starters with our children and a beautiful way to connect with their little world. This week each of our rooms will be immersing themselves in a special collection of books all about Dad's, Grandpas, uncles and the special people they have in their life

09.01.2022 Have you ever noticed your little one moving lots of objects from one place to another? Do they fill their pockets, little bags, buckets or any sort of container with lots of odds and ends or random objects and toys from their play area? Do they dump baskets of blocks on the floor only to pick them up or shift them into little piles somewhere else? This is the wonderful world of the ‘Transporting Schema’. Whilst it might look a little disorderly to us as adults, it’s actu...ally our children making sense of the world around them, and is such an important part of their development in the early years. The challenge is to let the little piles develop and their transporting play build and evolve, if we follow them and 'tidy up' their piles, we can unknowingly be breaking down their little 'play schema'. We've noticed our Senior Kindy children doing lots of ‘transporting’ lately and we just couldn’t resist adding these cute little wicker trolleys to their ‘transporting world’. They loved them and were so proud of their new resources and straight away incorporated them into their ‘transporting’ behaviours. Transporting also provides so many opportunities for children to learn to count, match similar shapes or objects and sort by colour again all play-based learning led by the children and supported by our Educators. Buckets, bags, ice-cream containers, dump trucks, trolleys, loose parts, small baskets, nature-walks collecting items along the way with prams and wagons are all ways to support the ‘Transporting Schema’ in their everyday life. If you think about it our children see us ‘transporting’ as adults all the time; as we shop at the supermarket and collect different items into our trolley and transport them into different shopping bags, into our cars and home into different cupboards or areas in the kitchen; as we collect piles of washed clothes and put them away in separate rooms; as we collect different piles of trimmed trees, mowed grass and clippings and transport these to bins or bags as we work in the garden. It certainly makes sense then that they’d want to incorporate ‘transporting’ into their own little worlds. Oh and the hot tip is. ‘transporting’ behaviours are super helpful when they become a natural part of time to ‘tidy up’ or ‘pack-up’!

07.01.2022 Every day is the right day to check in on the mental well-being and welfare of those we care for, but on R U OK Day we just wanted you to know that our Riversdale families are always in our thoughts. Especially this year with the roller-coaster of COVID when so many people are doing it tough. But we do think Pooh and Piglet say it best of all.. If you, or someone you know is in need of urgent support, please call Lifeline: 13 11 14 ... https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

02.01.2022 What are the happiest memories of your childhood? Chances are they’ll be about being outdoors, with feet on the ground or hanging upside down, splashing in water, wind blowing in your hair and a sense of freedom and creativity that only the outdoors can bring! That’s exactly what ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ is all about. Spending time outdoors is just as important for children’s development as learning to read and write. Being outdoors engages and excites children in spectac...ular ways and is the key to children’s health, wellbeing and happiness. That’s why here @ Riversdale we’ve invested in a permanent ‘Outdoor Classroom structure’ in our lower yard which the children have taken to calling their ‘Tree House’. It’s also why we have so many large shaded areas for the children to enjoy the outdoors, and lots of roped climbing structures, along with pebbled creeks and bumps and hills to climb it really is an outdoors wonderland for little hands and minds. Today many of our rooms took the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors early in the morning before it got too hot. They took full set-ups outside with them like: The Salon from Pre-Kindy, Block Play and Construction, Painting and lots of water play to keep cool. Our Kindergarten class were fully set-up in their ‘Tree-House classroom’. We saw lots of climbing, dancing, problem-solving and team-work with a lot of fun along the way building critical life-skills in the outdoors! #outdoorclassroomday #outdoors #RELC #oxenfordchildcare #riversdaleearlylearning

25.12.2021 Early Childhood Educators' Day recognises and celebrates the work of Australia's educators in early learning services for their wonderful contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care. It's a chance to say thank you to Australia’s Early Childhood Educators on a very personal level by service operators, families and their children. At Riversdale Early Learning Centre we are blessed to have such dedicated educators who put the c...hildren’s needs first. The ideas that are implemented to foster a child’s development, the endless books read to foster language, the time spent giving hugs and reassurance when a child is upset, all comes from their hearts. Everything our Educators do is done with purpose and with love. And on Educator’s Day, today and every day we thank them for that! With the most challenging 18 months that we have ever seen in Early Learning as we traversed Covid-19 we’re super proud to have a team of Educator’s who really ‘show up’ every day with all that they do for our treasured little ones as they play their role in nurturing our future generation into beautiful little souls. All of our Educators were spoiled yesterday by the owners of Riversdale Early Learning Centre for all the special work they do on a daily basis in recognition of Early Childhood Educators Day! And we thank Miss Kylie for her hand-written letter of gratitude for each and every Educator and Miss Emma for her special treats. We also send a big thank you to all our families who took the time to write messages, share kind words, and their children who drew special pictures for their Educators (and wow Lachlan what a special all day long message you gave Miss Bek and Miss Aaliyah to thank them).

20.12.2021 Yesterday our senior building children were visited by the wonderful Brave Heart team including the showstopper Ditto. The Ditto show, is an age-appropriate show which delivers such important messages to the children about their personal safety in a fun and interactive way. Through the show the children learnt about recognising 'yes feelings' where Miss Cassia and Ditto gave some wonderful examples to the children what 'Yes feelings' may feel like to them such as feelings... of excitement, feeling happy, a sense of fun. They also discussed and demonstrated to the children what No feelings may feel like such as feeling sad, feeling angry and feeling unsafe. Our bodies are such a wonderful thing as they will give us warning signs we are having feelings of being unsafe such as a fast beating heart, wobbly legs, or butterflies in their tummy. Also if they are having no feelings they should run and tell someone they can trust such as a parent, a teacher, or an adult. The next part of the show discussed and identified each of our private parts and that they are special to them. Through learning about our private parts the children engaged in a very catchy song Private Parts which the educators will continue to incorporate into their programs as they revisit all of the important information discussed today. It was wonderful to see the children actively engaging with the show through answering questions, singing the songs and joining in with the actions. A big thank you to the wonderful Braveheart team for the engaging learning experience today. If you would like any further information, please feel free to visit the Braveheart’s website or if you would like to reach out for some support or guidance please call or visit: Bravehearts Information and Support Line: 1800 272 831 https://bravehearts.org.au/what-we/counselling-and-support/ If you would like to talk to someone, Bravehearts’ national Information and Support Line can be accessed by anyone wanting information or support relating to child sexual assault and exploitation. 11.12.2021 We’re looking forward to celebrating and thanking our amazing Educators at Riversdale tomorrow. It’s really easy to join in - simply write a note on our appreciation slips in the foyer area at drop off on Wednesday & pop it in the basket. Or perhaps your child would like to draw them a picture or simply tell their Educator what they love best about spending time with their Educator
