23.01.2022 Often referred today as mobile phone Text Heads! Signs and Symptoms of Text Neck: Instant upper back or neck pain when using a handheld device.... Nagging or sharp pain in the neck or shoulders at the end of the day. General shoulder pain and tightness. Intermittent or constant headache made worse when looking down or using the computer. Studies have shown the text neck may possibly lead to chronic problems due to early onset of arthritis in the neck along with Tendinosis pain especially in the Scalene and Cervical Muscles. According to Spinal Health a recent study shows that 79% of the population between the ages 18 and 44 have their cell phones with them almost all the timewith only 2 hours of their waking day spent without their cell phone on hand. How is text neck treated? First, prevention is the key. Here is some advice for preventing the development or advancement of text neck: Hold your cell phone at eye level as much as possible. The same holds true for all screenslaptops and tablets should also be positioned so the screen is at eye level and you don't have to bend your head forward or look down to view it. How can you improve your Posture and Ergonomics? Take frequent breaks from your phone and laptop throughout the day. For example, set a timer or alarm that reminds you to get up and walk around every 20 to 30 minutes. If you work in an office, make sure your screen is set up so that when you look at it you are looking forward with your head positioned squarely in line with your shoulders and spine. The bottom line is to avoid looking down with your head bent forward for extended periods throughout the day. When looking down keep your chin tucked in to avoid over stressing the neck flexor and extensor muscles.

20.01.2022 The spinal cord is a column of nerve tissue protected by a bony tube in the spinal column. Conditions that narrow the space in this tube put the spinal cord at risk of getting squeezed. This narrowing in the spinal column of the neck is called cervical spinal stenosis, or cervical stenosis. Pressure against the spinal cord as a result of spinal stenosis causes myelopathy, a condition that demands medical attention. Myelopathy can cause problems with the bowels and bladder, ch...ange the way you walk, and affect your ability to use your fingers and hands. In many patients shoulder weakness occurs with cervical stenosis. It is most common when the spinal cord compression occurs in the high cervical or upper area of the neck. The shoulder blade muscles and the deltoid muscle generally are most affected. As these muscles weaken with progressive cervical stenosis they begin to show signs of wasting. Sometimes, there can be burning sensations with tingling and pins and needles from the shoulder to the hand [Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a much more common and less of a problem to treat but will give similar symptoms to stenosis down the arm, so an MRI and an Orthopaedic diagnosis should be arranged before worrying, a pinched nerve is easily treated]. The bony spinal canal normally has more than enough room for the spinal cord. Typically, the canal is 17 to 18 millimeters around, slightly less than the size of a penny. Spinal stenosis occurs when the canal narrows to 13 millimeters or less. When the size drops to 10 millimeters, severe symptoms of myelopathy occur. Myelopathy is a term for any condition that affects the spinal cord. The symptoms of myelopathy result from pressure against the spinal cord and reduced blood supply in the spinal cord as a result of the pressure. There are two types of Stenosis 1. lumbar stenosis and 2. cervical stenosis. X-rays are used to look for the cause of pressure against the spinal cord. The images can show if degeneration has caused the space between the vertebrae to collapse and may show if a bone spur is pressing against the spinal cord. If the symptoms are mild, nonsurgical treatment should always be tried initially to see if the symptoms improve. See more

07.01.2022 Evidence shows that prolonged sitting is devastating your health. It actively promotes dozens of chronic diseases, which includes becoming overweight and type 2 diabetes, even if you're very fit. Studies looking at life in agriculture environments show that people in agrarian villages sit for about three hours a day. Meanwhile, the average American office worker can sit for 13 to 15 hours a day, and research shows that vigorous exercise cannot counteract the adverse effects o...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Kyphosis is a forward rounding of the back. Some rounding is normal, but the term "Hyperkyphosis" usually refers to an exaggerated rounding of the back. While kyphosis can occur at any age, it's most common in older people. I found in one such case that a client who suffered from Hyper or Exaggerated Kyphosis was due to a rib compression and an unstable Sacroiliac joint pushing down on her lumbars created another condition called Hyperlordosis were the lumber spine gets pulle...d inward due to a tight psoas muscle and sacroiliac joint dysfunction creating pain and an uneven Pelvis [Sacral Torsion] so starts a vicious cycle of imbalances up and down her spine, my client also suffered from a severe case of fibromyalgia where she had previously been relying on medications to control her pain driven cycles. I treated her by first straightening her pelvis region followed by Dr Erik Dalton's Advice & Ida Rolph who always said ''If it doesn't belong there, then put it back to were it belongs" releasing her ribs and bringing all her superficial fascia back to a neutral state helped me bring her Kyphosis under control and releasing her psoas and iliacus muscles also helped considerably in correcting the Lordosis dysfunction, as a result my client is no-longer taking medication to control her pain and her fibromyalgia symptoms seemed to have vanished as her kyphosis was bought under control, I now have a much happier Client who only visits my practise every 2 months for maintenance purposes. 05.01.2022 The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) joins your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your Mandible. TMJ or Temporomandibular disorder can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles, that control jaw movement. Pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as visiting a Dentist. In most cases, the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders is temporary and can be relieved with self-managed care or nonsurgical treatments. TMJ disorders can produ...ce pain when you open your mouth or chew. Pterygoids jaw muscles located on the inner surface of the mandible can be a main contributor pain. Also, If the Meniscus disk erodes or moves out of its proper alignment it can start a cycle of problems & tenderness of your jaw, difficulty chewing, uneven bite and if left untreated may wear and tear the joint. Rivers Myoskeletal has Successfully helped relieve many clients from this painful condition and will continue to do so into the future.
