24.01.2022 Today we remember our friend, brother and Old Ignatian Peter Donkersley (OR2014), who died on this day in 2018. Peter was a kind friend and intelligent student who will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him. His name also continues to live on through the establishment of The Peter Donkersley Memorial Prize in Global Health established by his parents, Rob and Lesia, in memory of his passion for medicine. We keep his family and friends in our prayers today. If yo...u or someone you know is feeling Peter’s loss, please don’t hesitate to reach out to connect with someone. If you know someone who has not been themselves lately, now is a good time to check in with your friends and let them know there is someone who cares. You can also find support on the numbers below to speak with someone, 24 hours a day, to share anything that is on your mind. There is always someone ready to listen. 22.01.2022 Great news - after a bit of flip flopping on GPS sports, the season will be resuming tomorrow in a COVID-safe manner. Livestreams for all GPS senior Competitions teams (1st and 2nds) can be accessed at https://www.cluch.tv/, and the team has been working behind the scenes to fix the bugs of the previous weeks, so you'll be able to catch up on all the games. Enjoy!

22.01.2022 With COVID restrictions, the send off for Les Kirkpatrick is not going to be as we all would have wanted and only family and close friends are able to attend the Church. The funeral service will be live streamed at 10am on Friday 8th January. https://oiu.org.au/leskirkpatrickfuneral It is also not possible to host a wake at this time in an effective way, so the Kirkpatrick family, the OIU and the school will work together to do something after the COVID restrictions settle.

21.01.2022 It was a day full of celebrations for our Year 12s, from their group photo in the morning through to the Memoriale Awards and Year 12 Co-curriculum Awards Cerem...onies both of which were livestreamed to allow families to join from any location to help celebrate the successes of a remarkable cohort. Over lunch, their energies were replenished as they were served by the Executive in a gesture of service and appreciation. Thank you to Mr Michael Phillip for his inspiring speech today, encouraging our young men to discover their true value, and to Mr Brent Cubis, who encouraged our cohort to continue their strong connections as Old Ignatians. Both men once sat where our students are today, unaware that down the track, they would return to the College as parents and speakers. Similarly, whilst our Year 12s may not know where life will lead them after this year, we are hopeful that the path will one day lead back to Riverview as an Old Boy, a coach, a dad, or even as a guest speaker for a new generation.

20.01.2022 OIRUFC are having a great year, leading the club championship & coming back to clinch heroic victories like this on the bell. You are doing us proud, well done to all.

19.01.2022 Today we celebrated the remarkable Class of 2020 at the Laureate Assembly, and for the first time since the ATAR was introduced Duces! Oliver Lenzner and Nic...k Leonard tied for first place with ATARs of 99.95. This achievement was shared with only 48 other students across Australia. Not pictured is Nick Leonard who was unfortunately unable to join us today. However, he joined many others watching via the live stream. Congratulations to all of the Laureate recipients and to the entire Class of 2020 who achieved their own personal bests! To stay connected, make sure you join our OIU Facebook Group and keep your details updated on the OIU website for events and reunions.

18.01.2022 Which House do you think will win the Inter-House basketball competition?

18.01.2022 It's not too late to check out the feel-good comedy Never Too Late, directed by Mark Lamprell (OR1976)! Here's what David Stratton says: Thanks to the brisk, efficient direction of Mark Lamprell, and the practised professionalism of the fine cast of actors, the film is rather delightful even laugh-out loud funny. Support an Old Ignatian, the Australian film industry and your local theatre - all while enjoying a great night out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjkLx3-hK2Y

17.01.2022 Look far enough and you'll find an Old Ignatian here, there and everywhere - even on Big Brother! Xavier Molyneux (OR2014) showed that you can make a difference, whatever your platform, with the statement: "With my 15 minutes of fame unfortunately coming to an end, I thought what a great opportunity to raise some money for a charity.' Well done Xavier, and please do support Xavier's charity of choice, Raise Foundation, which also has connections to another Riverview family,... the Condons. https://www.dailymail.co.uk//Big-Brothers-Xavier-Molyneux-

17.01.2022 It's Valete week at Riverview! For some, this will be a distant memory, and for others, quite a fresh one. But regardless of how long it's been since you left the gates, we hope this brings back fond memories. This year's Valete week will look different, as various ceremonies are livestreamed to allow parents to join online rather than in person, due to COVID restrictions. The OIU is looking forward to sharing more Valete news and welcoming the latest and newest Old Boys to our ranks soon!

17.01.2022 Meet our new College Captain

16.01.2022 The College hosted its first virtual open day today, hosted by Dr Hine, who was joined by Fr Gerry and new College Captain, William Martyr. Take a look at the videos and share the link with any families in your world who may be interested in enrolling at Riverview.

16.01.2022 It is with sadness that I let you know Les 'The Kirk' Kirkpatrick passed away peacefully this morning at 2am. Thoughts go out to Joy Kirkpatrick who has been by his side daily throughout his last month in hospital. I am sure everyone has special memories of him, a true man for others. Les started working at Riverview in 1969 and taught there for forty-six years working as a rugby, cricket, rowing coach, form master, Cheshire House Master, and a Mathematics and Religion teacher. Due to current restrictions on numbers attending a funeral, arrangements will be made to ensure people can watch the funeral online. Further details will be sent once arrangements have been made. Heaven just got a very good man. God Bless and Rest in Peace.

15.01.2022 Reunited with his Honour Blazer When Peter Mooney OR2002 (Captain of the College and Insignis recipient) and his young family went overseas for six months, he placed all their goods, furniture, clothes, possessions in storage. Everything (including Peter’s honour blazer) was lost when the storage place caught fire. Tom Loneragan OR2002 heard of the loss and wanted to do something about it. So, about nine months ago, with the great help of the Licona Shop at Riverview, the co curriculum office, the OIU, the Advancement Office and many of Peter’s friends, a new blazer was produced with all Peter’s original ‘lines’ on it. Last Sunday morning, the new blazer and Peter Mooney were reunited. Peter is extremely grateful to all who enabled this to happen. 15.01.2022 Flashback Friday takes us back to some of the early Indian Bazaars The first Indian Bazaar was held in 1952 to raise funds to support the Jesuit Mission. Our Alma Mater of 1952 states that it was made possible by An army of helpers - Old Boys, Parents and Friends and the event atmosphere was one of gaiety and roaring good humour. This popular event became an annual tradition at Riverview and is now known as the Jesuit Mission Bazaar. 2020 will be the first year in the history of the Bazaar that the event has not been held. However, you can still donate to the work of the Mission via the following link: https://jesuitmission.org.au/bazaar-sic

09.01.2022 Congratulations to Alex Noble (OR2020) on being awarded the Young Citizen of the Year at the recent Ryde Australia Day ceremony. For Alex, life is a gift and he wakes up everyday and appreciates that, knowing that he can do anything he puts his mind to.

08.01.2022 The Valete celebrations today gave honour to a phenomenally resilient group of young men who not only made it through their final year of secondary schooling, b...ut showed incredible strength in leading the College through one of the toughest years around. The entire College gathered for the Guard of Honour procession across the campus (led by an impressive drumline), and the day was capped off with the Valete Awards Ceremony on the steps of the Arrupe. Inspiring guest speaker and Old Boy, Dr Greg O’Mahoney, encouraged our students to remember these years with gratitude and to move forward into their best years ahead, prepared to put their talents to use for the community. In a truly moving and memorable moment, Alex Noble was awarded the Insignis Medal the highest honour awarded at the College. With One Foot Raised, our Year 12 cohort now prepare to move into their future and join the ranks of our Old Ignatians. Well done gents, you’ve done us all proud.

06.01.2022 OISA 3rd Grade Rugby wins Premiership Old Ignatians were lucky enough to play a shortened season in 2020. Overall it was an extremely successful season with our 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Colts and 3rd Grade all progressing through to the semi finals. Our 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade side went through to the Grand Final coming up against Newport and Beecroft respectively. Unfortunately our 2nd Grade side were not good enough for Newport on the day, but 3rd Grade beat Beecroft 18-7. It was great to see so many long term club stalwarts in that team be rewarded with a Premiership. For coach Guy Coleman (OR 1983), it was his 13th premiership with the club!

05.01.2022 We congratulate Joshua McElroy (OR2014), OIU Arts Ambassador, on the start of filming for his short film 'Mary', based on the story of his grandfather, Tom Lyons. Filming begins this month - we wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing the finished product!
