25.01.2022 Double Header Round Up because I forgot last week. Post run Wrap for events 360 and 361. Looks like there may have been a few too many sleep-ins on Saturday - there were only 107 runners and walkers at Riverway compared to 215 the previous week. Congratulations to all and don't forget, you can make up time by heading to North Shore New Years Day as well as the usual Riverway event on 2nd Jan. Over the last two weeks we saw 4 people take on their 50th parkrun event. Congra...tulations to Tim Kelly, Jason Smart, John Stewart and Grace Odgaard. We do have to go hunting for these milestones so if you celebrated one and we missed you, please let us know. Thanks to the awesome vollies making our last two events of 2020 possible - Russell CALDWELL, Glenn CHRISTENSEN, Jade CONNOR, Liz DO, Brianna HUTCHINGS, Kristy JONES, Geoffrey MAGNER, Roy MATTHEWS, Mandy MCLEAOD, Wendy PURDIE, Tracey ROYES, Nicole BOON, Grantley FIDDYMENT, Ross JOHNSTON, Jenni JOHNSTON, Andrew BOYLE, Jackie HUTCHERSON, Lindsay BRENNAN, Gloria DANIELS and Jackie BYLLAARDT. Wishing you all a very happy and safe New Year and we will see you all in 2021. Cheers Nic p.s. - I took some pics of the start and this was one of the couple taken that weren't horribly blurred (entirely user error). Love your smiles.
24.01.2022 All systems are currently go for tomorrow, raining or not. However, we will be performing a course check in the morning and may need to cancel if the conditions are determined unsafe. If the event is cancelled last minute, a notice will be posted here on the Riverway parkrun Facebook page.
22.01.2022 WELCOME BACK! So great to see 202 smiling faces ready to parkrun this morning. Thank you to everyone for assisting us with the changes and your patience whilst we all learn the new processes. Congratulations to today's milestoners - Ben Lowrey and Megan Januszkiewicz both marking 50 parkruns at our return event. Also to Jade Connor for sneaking in the unofficial but no less awesome 100th volunteer event. Of the 202 participants, there were 16 first timers and 14 PBs. B...ig thank you to this week's volunteers: Patrick PEACOCK Tracey ROYES Katie RODGERS Nicole BOON Ross JOHNSTON Jenni JOHNSTON Jade CONNOR Brianna HUTCHINGS Cheryl JONES Wendy PURDIE Glenn CHRISTENSEN Kristy JONES Jackie HUTCHERSON Alison BENNETT Mandy MCLEOD Sophie B Elizabeth MATTHEWS. 22.01.2022 Relieve some quarantine boredom. ::Nic
20.01.2022 How things have changed... How good is this image shared to Lost Townsville of Black's Weir before the Tavern, Houses and Footbridge were built?
20.01.2022 While some of us have been taking things a little easier with our usual Saturday morning routine on ice, resident Riverway superstar Deklen Emonson went to the dam today and ran 5kms in 16:13 - That’s close to a 1 minute PB and he ran it all by himself! Congratulations Deklen - We can’t wait to see what kind of form you’re in by the time we can finally return and celebrate our 7th birthday all together. You might have to wait a while for the rest of us to finish though.
20.01.2022 All (we) want for Christmas is (a full volunteer roster for our Boxing Day parkrun). Our roster for this Saturday is almost entirely empty. In order to be able to hold our event we will need to find a minimum of 9 volunteers: Timekeeper; Finish Tokens volunteer;... Barcode Scanner x 4; and Marshal x 3. Let us know if you can help.
20.01.2022 I love parkrun because... of the wonderful friends I've made and the friends I'm yet to make. Nic
19.01.2022 Dob them in/shout them out. Who do you have to thank for spreading the word to you?
19.01.2022 Who's up for another lesson from the school of parkrun?
17.01.2022 Hi folks! Did anyone leave a child's bike behind this morning? We believe they were visiting this morning and it may belong to the Horner family. Send us a message and we can sort out getting it back to you
17.01.2022 Thanks to Andy, Christer, Grantley and Tony for today's pics. (yes, they're not in order)
16.01.2022 Things are still quiet on the parkrun front, however, if you are looking for a running event, our biggest local event - the McDonald's Townsville Running Festival 2020 is still going ahead but as a virtual event to fit in with current restrictions. You can register for the 5k, 10k, half or full marathon, complete your elected distance in the time frame (between Friday 31st July to Sunday 2nd August) and submit your activity using the link in your rego email. You can run anywhere and take as long as you like (as long as it's one continuous activity). You will need a watch that can record running activity or use a smart phone with a running app (such as Strava or RunKeeper) installed. Or just borrow a friend's phone or watch. Go to https://townsvillerunningfestival.com/ and register today! Time is running out - it's this weekend!
16.01.2022 We promise once all this is over, however long it takes, we will be back. We will walk, jog, run & volunteer together again Thanks in no small part to the ong...oing financial support of our partners, we will return Please share to show your appreciation Medibank Blackmores The Athlete's Foot Eukanuba Australia Sport Australia #loveparkrun
15.01.2022 Hi family. We have confirmation of another month without parkrun. Whilst this is sad, we thank you for your understanding that it's for the best. Please continue to look after each other and stay as active as possible within the restrictions. Much love ::Nic
14.01.2022 Found love? Looking for love? Share your status and dress up for our traffic light themed event tomorrow. Wear RED if you are in a relationship Wear YELLOW if you are looking for friendship Wear GREEN if you are single and looking for love
14.01.2022 We don't normally do this but a pair of stolen electric bikes were allegedly spotted along Riverway this morning. If anyone saw them or has information to assist with their recovery please contact Katrina Hurst directly on 0466669664.
13.01.2022 How great! We have lots of parkdogs at Riverway, so head on over and enter a great prize thanks to parkrun supporter, Eukanuba.
12.01.2022 IT'S NEVER TU-TU MUCH - We had a tutu themed birthday planned in March just before being cancelled. So, be like these ladies, dig our your best tulle and don a tutu this weekend the 28th Nov to celebrate 7 years of Riverway parkrun. #betterlatethannever
12.01.2022 I know we have lots of parkdogs at Riverway. Share a pic of your four (or three) legged parkrun pal!
11.01.2022 At Riverway parkrun, we love love. To celebrate love (and future love) we'll be holding a special traffic light themed run on Saturday, 13th Feb. If you wish to take part in the fun, just wear a red, orange/yellow or green coloured shirt. Simple. RED - means you are "taken" (in a relationship) YELLOW/ORANGE - means you are looking for friendship... GREEN - means you are single and looking for love. Please be mindful that vollies have to wear orange and you might need to look past the vest.
10.01.2022 ONE MORE SLEEP - I hope you've got your barcodes ready and your first day outfit (with tutu) laid out. We will be running the same course as we were before COVID and meeting at the same place. If you haven't run this course or need a refresher - the course map and start/finish maps are below. A course description is in the comments. See you bright and early at 6:45am tomorrow.
10.01.2022 At this stage, Townsville and surrounds lockdown is only until 6pm Friday 2nd July 2021. We are still going ahead on Saturday, however, this could change with new developments and we will provide advice here as soon as we know. We are asking that everyone follows lockdown instructions to reduce the risk of futher situations developing and we can go ahead with our weekend as planned. Reminder - restrictions can be found at the QLD Health website. If we do go ahead, we are still following COVID guidelines for parkrun and checking in with the QR code for contact tracing purposes. Stay safe out there.
10.01.2022 Happy event number #367! No, it's not a special event but still a celebration for every one of our happy participants this morning. Shout-out to those celebrating a milestone this week (and last week because we didn't mention them). Congratulations to: * Lincoln M and Dylan-John R who not only completed their junior 10 last week but also stacked a PB (the third in a row for Lincoln) on top;... * Nigel ASLIN who picked his 50th parkrun last week; * Ann VITALE who cracked the 100 parkruns milestone; * Roslyn BUDD and Narelle PERFECT who 'perfectly' ran their 100th events last week. This week's event was proudly brought to you by volunteers - Nicole BOON Lucy ROBINSON Matthew SNELL Andrea SMITH Jade CONNOR Wendy PURDIE Jackie HUTCHERSON Ally M Cody BRIGGS Arthur S Hannah MCLAREN Elizabeth MATTHEWS Hamish M Andrea QUINNEY Joe S. Next weekend is Valentine's Day so keep an eye on the page for a special theme coming.
09.01.2022 Make 2021 the year you volunteer! We’d love to see some new faces amongst our crew for this Saturday. We’re after one marshal and up to four barcode scanners - Can you help?
08.01.2022 We've been given the ok to go ahead. However, per the QLD Government advice: ****Residents must carry a mask at all times outside the home and wear them indoors or if social distancing isn’t possible.***** This will be in place for at least the next 14 days. We are asking everyone to comply with these conditions by wearing a mask. All volunteers will also be required to wear masks. ... If you are unwell, PLEASE STAY HOME. If you attend, PLEASE CHECK IN USING THE COVID QR CODE. We are asking everyone to co-operate now so we can be back to normal sooner. See more
07.01.2022 Have you been a barcode scanner yet? It's so much fun to see everyone come across the line and a great way to meet people. In the hope that parkrun is able to take place this weekend, we are looking for an extra barcode scanner. Or, in case this Saturday doesn't suit and you get super inspired by the video, we have three spots up for grabs the following week (10/7). Let us know if you can help!
06.01.2022 Another month without parkrun. Thank you all for your understanding in these trying times. Whilst our 7th anniversary may have been and gone during this time, we will certainly have it and more to celebrate when we are back. We hope you are keeping well and safe and looking out for each other. ::Nic.
06.01.2022 If you haven't heard the news, parkrun is back in Oz! Very excited to see Darwin back up and 'running'. Look at all those happy faces. Many are looking for news for Riverway, the short answers are "Not yet" and "We don't know" but we encourage all of you to keep active in the meantime and keep logging those (not)parkruns. If you have some awesome pics of your own adventures feel free to share them - love to see what you've been up to.
05.01.2022 This week is National Volunteers Week. We’re so grateful to everyone who has donned an orange vest and given up their run or walk to help us out, especially those who’ve done more than their fair share - Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are a huge part of why we are missing parkrun so much and cannot wait until we can exercise with a few hundred of our closest mates again. #changingcommunitieschanginglives
05.01.2022 Set your alarm and then set a second one. We're back tomorrow!
05.01.2022 BULK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. We are desperately short of volunteers for this week. If you’d like to timekeep, hand out finish tokens, marshal or barcode scan (x 2) we have a spot with your name on it. Let us know if you can help!
04.01.2022 Thanks to Wendy Purdie for this week's pics
04.01.2022 Our event will appear a bit different as you can understand. Please take note of the following changes in addition to the Volunteer and Walker/Runner codes and assist us in accommodating restrictions. * Scan in using the QR code provided below every week you attend for contact tracing. This code will also be provided on a print out at the event. * No Key Box - please find another place for keys and valuables * No barcode box - barcodes will need to be brought along each we...ek * Keep your barcode on you - to ensure an easy finish transition we are encouraging participants to scan in immediately after finishing before moving on. We appreciate everyone's co-operation. This is new for all of us and thank you for your patience whilst we work out logistics.
03.01.2022 Another great turn out today, even if there weren’t many wearing green as proudly as Gidget (pictured) for our annual traffic light event. A HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteers who our forgetful Run Director failed to acknowledge: Greg, Glenn, Jade, Gloria, Jenni, Roy, Lincoln, Shaun, Wendy, Kristina, Joe, Andrea, Matthew and George. We love you! There are still a few spots over the next few weeks if anyone wants to give volunteering a go. We’d love to have you onboard.... Finally, just a reminder to please keep to the left and always give way to other park users when out on the course. This is especially important in those narrower sections. We know it’s difficult when there are lots of people, but everyone should be able to enjoy the paths and have as good a time as we’re having on their Saturday morning around the river. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and stay tuned for photos!
03.01.2022 The ground is soggy but we are going ahead. The recent rain will have upped the mozzie situation so put some repellent on before you come. Also, maybe don't wear those new running shoes you got for Christmas. Thanks to Paddy for checking the course. See you all soon. ::Nic
03.01.2022 Thanks to Christer, Roy, Andy and Wendy for this week’s photos.
