09.01.2022 RW hand-made smokin’ sticks of Lavender + Citrus for the wild ranger Just a quick issue I’d like to address ~ I tried + tested my own ingredients + method over many years before selling these in my brick + mortar florist shop. They will not go up in flames, they smell amazing and they truly cleanse the space if that is your intention. You may have seen new trendy smudge sticks pop up on socials this year - they look cute like a loose mini bunch of flowers BUT here a...re my issues with them.... they are all wrong - mostly because they are a MASSIVE FIRE HAZARD Firstly, there’s a reason the traditional sticks (like mine pictured) can be costly, and that’s because the material is tightly packed in and then dried. So it uses ten times more material than the fresh version I am referring to which is nothing more than a tiny bouquet with a few pretty looking flowers about the size of your hand. Tightly packing it brings out the natural aroma - it seems silly to me to burn a few fresh flowers. Also many of these flowers I’m seeing don’t even have much of a scent to begin with. Now, one of the reasons they are dried is because if the material used is fresh well then it probably won’t light, defeating the purpose of a smoke stick. If somehow you do get it to light up, or by the time it has reached your home it is mostly dried... the next issue is fire safety. The RFS would be appalled. There is a reason that smoke sticks have looked the same for thousands of years and that is because they are tried + tested and stick to a safe method of creating them. The basics are that the organic material must be tightly packed together with no leafy bits sticking out and finally trimmed on top and bottom to create a flat surface that keeps it smoking and not firing.... I tie them securely like I would a wedding bouquet otherwise you can imagine that it would go up in flames and burn down your house.
