17.01.2022 DISEASE OUTBREAK THREATENS DOGS A new deadly disease is threatening the lives of dogs around Australia. Canine ehrlichiosis is caused by a bite of a parasite ca...lled the ‘brown dog tick’. Australia was initially considered free of the disease, but now more than 300 dogs across Western Australia and the Northern Territory have been infected. The disease causes fever, decreased appetite, lethargy and bleeding. Some dogs may also experience difficulty breathing and blindness. The bite can be potentially fatal for dogs, and owners may only notice the symptoms occurring in their dogs 2 weeks after being infected. Dog owners are urged to look after their dogs, particularly in humid conditions where the ticks can live. A good tick collar or tick medicine is advised. See more
