17.01.2022 This juvenile Boobook has been in care for some weeks now recovering from an animal attack . He had deep lacerations to his wings , lower spine and his uropygial gland . More commonly known as an oil gland/preening gland . This gland is an important survival technique as the gland produces oil , the bird then uses their beak to carefully cover the feathers with enough oil to keep clean and waterproof themselves. Without this gland or complications, it opens the bird to illne...ss , they are more susceptible to weather changes ( not waterproof) flying difficulty’s and beastie bacteria and infection Pretty impressive little gland .. Although it’s still early days for his rehabilitation. He’s responding amazingly well so far

07.01.2022 Bird buddies.. Where possible we will always Buddy species , this shortens rehabilitation time and in this instance, having older Tawnys they get to teach the younger ones a thing or two .. it also limits the risk of imprinting to humans and good for their development .. oh and as a bonus we get to see these awesome pictures

07.01.2022 Last chance to get your orders in to ensure they are all here before Christmas Only $5 a pair!

06.01.2022 With every orphaned Joey that comes into care ..it take’s a lot of time , love and patience . There is a moment when the Joey see’s you as mum and a bond is formed . This is that moment.. that bond will continue for up to years depending on age on admission, injury and species. This is so important for their development as important going to an experienced and licensed rescue . Knowing the stages of development, being with other kangaroo’s and more importantly knowing when dehumanising needs to happen to get them ready for release. All as important as the next .. The emotional attachment and roller coaster can be hard but seeing them to release is a moment to cherish forever
