23.01.2022 FINISHED FRIDAY I am slack today and did think about doing this early this morning but forgot as quick as a flash. So, sorry. This is the last Finished Friday I hope that by doing this it has helped you all stay connected during our lockdowns and not able to meet. Please show us what you have worked on this year

23.01.2022 What a busy day we had on Saturday! The Hub held an Open Day and a number of our members joined together for our monthly Sit and Sew. 13 of our members were fortunate enough to spend the weekend with the lovely Judy Newman slow stitching. I think all that attended would say they were inspired by Judy's work and her attitude towards the creation of our pieces. What a lovely, pieceful way to spend a weekend.

23.01.2022 The count down is on to our first Gathering for 2020 next Saturday the 1st Feb. So much has happened in our district since we all came together for our Christmas party. I feel sure there will be lots of emotional greetings of one another, comfort to be given and taken. Doors will be open at 11am, members and guests will all be welcomed See you all there

22.01.2022 Finished Friday. Please share with us the things you have finished. This is a great way for us all stay in touch during this social isolation period. Happy stitching

22.01.2022 Riviera Quilters committee members were invited to attend the meeting of the Bairnsdale View Club today held at the Sporting and Convention Centre. The occasion was to draw the winner of their major fundraiser raffle for this year. Riviera Quilters gifted a quilt for use as first prize. After a short presentation of some of our quilts the lucky winner was drawn. It is expected that $2000 will be the resulting proceeds from the raffle. The View Club support the Smith Family in providing financial assistance for the educational needs of 4 young people.

21.01.2022 Our March gathering Bring a friend / Open day resulted in over 60 people visiting the Hub. 7 Visitors stayed for the day and one chose to join. Jess and Jill came to talk to us from the Foundry, home to many talented artists around East Gippsland. Our pop up destash shop raised over $160 for Blazeaid.

20.01.2022 Finished Friday is running a bit late as I totally forgot what day it was, my apologies. If you dont have time to post your projects tonight please just do so when you can. Margaret Fraser

20.01.2022 This week saw Riviera Quilters members join together to sew for the Lakes Entrance Community Health Meals on Wheels program. Each year members sew something to brighten the day of those who receive meals on Christmas day. While fortunately there are not a lot that require meals, for those that do these hand crafted gifts in the form of table mats, serviettes and coasters are just a way of saying that someone cares. This year we also made microwave bowl holders. These handy fa...bric bowls can be used in the microwave. No more hot bowls to juggle out of the microwave. Work continued on the Exhibition charity quilt as well. All in all a great day of sewing. For those that are sewing at home for this program donations will be received at our Christmas gathering on Saturday December 7th. We will also be collecting non perishable items as well as cash donations on the day to pass on to the Mother Christmas Appeal. See more

16.01.2022 There will be no Sit and Sew tomorrow 19th October at the HUB due to the UFO retreat at Lakes Entrance. This UFO retreat is booked to capacity, so I am sure the ladies will be sewing up a storm and finishing off lots of projects.

16.01.2022 Technique of the month was well attended with 16 ladies participating in the last 3 blocks of the 30 that will now make up the quilt, the 2 days of 16th and 17th November have been set aside for putting this together at the HUB. If you have not already registered for this workshop please do so. We had 2 guest speakers yesterday, Carolyn, from Grandpa Bailey's home made sauces and Suzie from Mac's chocolate mousse. After their talk we had the opportunity to purchase some products. It is hard to believe that we only have one more gathering for this year.

15.01.2022 This Saturday is our Bring a Friend / Open day. Hopefully being the long weekend we will have lots of visitors that will pop in and say Hi. We will have the Exhibition Handbook, including raffle tickets, ready for distribution as well as the 2020 Membership booklet so even if you cant stay it would be great if members could pop in and pick theirs up. Member Val has offered to bring along a stash that she recently inherited from a relative. Bring along some coins and all mon...ey will be donated to Blazeaid. See you tomorrow, Jen. See more

15.01.2022 Riviera Quilters are proud to have hosted their 6th Westalee Ruler Quilting workshop this weekend, these workshops have spanned 2 years, and given a lot of ladies and one gent this educational oppotunity to learn to quilt using your own domestic sewing machine.. Thank you Anita Ellis, accredited Westalee platinum tutor

15.01.2022 Finished Friday Can you believe that another week has gone by, I trust you are all well and busy, but I do hope you have still had time to get into the sewing room and get something finished. Please show us what you have been working on

15.01.2022 56 members joined together on Saturday for our last gathering for the year. We were welcomed by Glenda and Julie at the front desk who instantly put us all in the Christmas spirit. A game of Celebrity Quilting Heads resulted in laughs and what has become a tradition at this gathering Ula Sheather read her Christmas story which allows the distribution of our Kris Kringle gifts. Secret Pals were revealed and the finished quilt top for our 2020 Exhibition raffle quilt. Show and ...Tell is always a highlight and this month there were a number of finished quilt tops from our Technique of the Month quilt. All members present were asked to sign the 30th birthday signature quilt. The centre table groaned with delicious food for lunch along with Heathers Christmas trees and other decorations. Tis the season for giving and between the door entry takings, the raffle tickets and the Mother Christmas donations a total of $400 will be passed on to the Bairnsdale Mother Christmas Appeal on behalf of Riviera Quilters. Many bags of nonperishable items will also make their way into homes of people less fortunate than ourselves. All in all a lovely day out. See more

15.01.2022 Numbers were down at the Gathering today, most likely due to members taking time to be with their great children while they are on school holiday. Those members who attended had a great day with month 9 of the technique of the month being shown by Liz Traynor. This technique of the month has 1 more month to run and then the big reveal. A 2 day session has been organised for November 16th and 17th to put the quilt together. There is a registration form in this month's newsletter, please fill it in and sent back ASAP if you are wanting to attend. Paul Harvey from Trust for Nature gave a very informative talk on the work this organisation does to protect Victoria's native flora and fauna

14.01.2022 Riviera Quilters recently spent a weekend together with the lovely Liz Traynor. Liz showed us how to construct the Technique of the Month quilt. These blocks have been made over the past 10 months as part of our 30th birthday celebrations. Liz designed the quilt in recognition of "Celebrating 30 years of friendship and sewing with Riviera Quilters". When finished Liz has kindly donated this quilt for our signature quilt for 30 years. All members will be asked to sign the top prior to quilting. The top will be available for signing at our Christmas party on Saturday December 7th. Another wonderful weekend of Friendship, Learning and Fun.

12.01.2022 Finished Friday. Good morning to you all, please show us what you have finished in this social isolation time. Today is a cool one so it will be ideal for getting into the sewing room.

12.01.2022 A wonderful day was had by the 48 members who came along on Saturday. We were greeted by Sue and Beatty on the hostess desk and soon the room was full of friendly chatter. Of course the subject on most peoples lips was the impact that the fires have had on us all. John Fallon spoke as a representative for Rotary Fire Aid. As a club, our response to the fires in East Gippsland has been to donate $500 to Bairnsdale Riding for the Disabled in the form of vouchers from the Bairns...dale Grain store. This is our chosen charity for the 2019 /2020 year. Not only has this organisation been battling the drought, at least one of the properties that home some of the horses had pasture and fences burnt. We also donated a total of $540 to Rotary Fire Aid. The 5 Rotary clubs of East Gippsland are working together to assist local people with all funds raised staying in the local district. Some members travelled from Lakes Entrance, Sale and further down the Valley on what was a very hot day. It was a great start to what is going to be a busy and productive year. - Jen. See more
