23.01.2022 Nominations are NOW OPEN for the NSW Inspirational Women’s Awards 2020 (RIWA)! RIWA recognises service to the community across all sectors in NSW and is about commitment, dedication, perseverance and proactivity in improving the lives of others. The purpose of these awards is to acknowledge and celebrate community service performed by women through their vocations, selfless gifts of their skills, their time in various activities and endeavours. The Awards recognise the wor...k done by women, the quiet achievers, whose actions inspire others and make a real difference in their communities. The Awards are open to all women above the age of 18 years of age across NSW and anyone can submit an online nomination at www.riwa.com.au . The Awards are divided into three categories geographically, urban and rural for each. 1. Young Inspirational Woman of the Year 18-30 years of age 2. Inspirational Woman of the Year - 30+ years of age 3. Inspirational 2020 Health worker 18-30 years of age and 30+ years of age 4. A total of 24 finalists will be recognised Nominations close on 23 September 2020. Is there someone you know who deserves to be nominated?

16.01.2022 Fibha Frameen - RIWA Young Urban Finalist Fibha Frameen in her altruism has thought globally, passionately supporting the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. She has collaborated with NGOs in Somalia and Pakistan to implement food distribution projects for vulnerable people affected by Covid-19. A Global Peace Ambassador, Fibha has also directed her efforts locally, packing and delivering 1,200 meals to health care workers and community members affected by the virus. But the needs of the world at large have been close to her heart. She has been country coordinator for the Global Youth Parliament, represented Australia at the UN 75th Anniversary Youth Day Edition, and attended Tanzania’s Virtual Youth Conference as a special guest. Congratulations on your RIWA Young Urban nomination!

08.01.2022 Velma Walker - RIWA Rural Finalist Bushfires have always put RFS brigades to the test, and the fact that so many make the grade is because of people like Velma Walker, an RFS volunteer for more than 30 years and vital to the day-to-day running of the Shoalhaven RFS. Velma has received a string of awards, including the Commissioner’s Commendation for Service, and the Bronze Shoalhaven Medal. In 2017, she was named South Coast Local Woman of the Year. Last year, she was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal. Velma, operating as logistics officer in numerous fire and other emergency events, has spread energies widely, participating in musical theatre and with the CWA. Congratulations on your RIWA Rural nomination!

05.01.2022 Ellen Wearing - RIWA Young Health Finalist Crises like the present pandemic always brings the best people forward and Ellen Wearing, a registered nurse in her second year out from training, is one of those, working in a Covic-19 clinic at St George’s Hospital, Kogarah. Ellen faces many challenges every day but unfailing greets patients cheerfully and puts them at ease. She has shown ability to be flexible and professional, exceeding what would be expected from someone so young and has had a positive effect on the patients and staff around her. Ellen is considered by her peers as a clinical leader and through her interactions with patients an asset to the nursing team. Congratulations Ellen on your RIWA Young Health nomination!
