24.01.2022 I was sent this from a contact - how sweet and a bright spot in the week for we melbourne-siders:)
23.01.2022 We know that sick people don't eat much so I'm glad we don't supply vegetables. Thankfully we provide the yummy dessert on the food tray. See this note from the wife of a patient and feel the angst that goes when you watch over a loved in hospital. Taste does matter. I would like to give a huge pat on the back to this company. My partner of some 47 years has been so ill and spent some months in hospital. The only meal on his plate that he could swallow and enjoy ...was Rizo Dessert. He went into hospital weighing 86 kgs and came out four weeks later weighing only 72 kgs. At least he was eating something and enjoying it. I would like to award some sort of prize to this company. When he was sleeping I took the opportunity of going into the other patients rooms and asked them what was their favorite meal. There were 32 patients on the floor and there was not a single person who did not say to me without doubt, the dessert was their favorite. Well done to a company which delivers excellence They (Rizo) are definitely producing a product that would run off the shelves of the supermarkets. At the moment, their main outlet is private hospitals. . In my opinion, all the independent supermarkets should be stocking their product. Karen (partner a patient at St Vincents Private)
23.01.2022 It's terrible that our regulators have allowed 'Free Range' to be watered down such and pandered to the big operators and not to the right of consumers to be informed.
23.01.2022 Lovely feedback that greeted me this morning from a patient at Royal Melbourne Hospital. Second patient from that hospital to contact us this week:) "The best part of the lunch was dessert. RASPBERRY SWIRL. Your raspberry swirl. As you know food in the hospital is not good especially if you are vegetarian like me. However, your dessert was a highlight of the last week"
22.01.2022 Preparing Christmas dessert samples. Irish Cream - yummo and the return of Strawberries with Sherry Cream
22.01.2022 Support Australian growers, producers and manufacturers. Don't reward supermarkets that behave badly by not thinking about what you are putting in your basket. Farmers waited 10 years to get an increase in the price of milk. Then Coles took most of it back. Think about the '$%#@' or maybe plural $%#@s from Coles that sat in the meeting to decide that. It's almost psychopathic.
22.01.2022 Don't you love getting a card in the mail? The old-fashioned way of saying thank you and we got a lovely one today from a patient. Made our day.
21.01.2022 HOME DELIVERY - We are often asked if we can deliver to homes a box of mixed desserts for family or friends who are either not well, have trouble swallowing, or have very compromised appetites and just need to keep their kJ's up. We have had a request to consider home deliveries for those in need during this time. We don't go everywhere but we'll do our best to assist. 21.01.2022 So many in aged care have suffered terribly in isolation. Our friend captured the awful effects on both residents and their families.
21.01.2022 Everyone at Rizo Desserts wishes all of our Customers a lovely Christmas and very happy New Years. A special shout out to the many hospital patients who have kindly contacted us to tell us how much they like our desserts and how can they track them down post hospital stay. Every one of those contacts has been very special to us and has always made our day. Running a business can be hard. It's this feedback that makes it all worthwhile:) Charley the slightly-naughty-but-oh-so-cute-Bitsa sends out to everyone Season's Greetings.
21.01.2022 My friend has offered this course for free. I think we all need a bit of help to de-stress at the moment #perfectlybalancedlife
19.01.2022 thanks Jean - lovely to hear that. Stay well too!
19.01.2022 We believe that treating unemployed people with dignity makes us all better. Just as looking after our elderly, our families, our big businesses, our small businesses, our farmers, our sick and injured, our communities etc makes us feel good too. We reject commonly held stereotypes about all people on welfare being bludgers. We know that expenditure on Job Seeker sits behind Aged/pensions, Disabilitity/NDIS, Family Tax Benefit and I'm sure none of us believe these groups are bludgers? So for the good of the unemployed and also for the health of our post-covid economy we sincerely hope the Government doesn't choose to make Job Seekers return to their $280 per week but stays compassionate. We've all learned during this time that life can be dicey and there for the grace of god go I.....
18.01.2022 Yes , Im working from home today
17.01.2022 Whilst things are quiet we've had some time to catch up on a few things. We had thomasbrooke.com.au do some updated photography. This was just a play photo but love the effect
17.01.2022 This won't mean anything except to those of us who hail from the Riverina. But to me it's shocking. Knights Meats had great products, their service was second to none and they supported local producers/manufacturers too. It's very depressing that a great business like this could go under. It's depressing because consumers could have probably prevented it. However, the lure of cheap prices and convenience from the supermarkets overrules our sensibility. Coles & Woolw...orths won't employ any more people in Wagga due to this closure BUT there will be around 30-40 people without a job next week. We all have to look at what we buy. We have to do it because otherwise we'll run out of local choices. If that happens then you'll lose jobs; you'll increase the environmental impact from importing more of our food; you'll get more 'processed' food (because it has to last longer journeys and time sitting in big warehouses) and profits and tax will shift off-shore. Food in Australia is relatively cheap. We have to ask ourselves why it took 10 years for supermarkets to increase the price of $1 milk? It's because we the lazy consumers put no pressure on them. So sad.
15.01.2022 Getting our Christmas Lolly Cups done today. A day we all have to be disciplined and not sneak a few on the side.....
12.01.2022 Introducing a new product about to hit Melbourne Health Hospitals. It's Red Velvet Cream which is a delicious combination of Raspberry and Chocolate in a lovely thick mousse. Too more(ish) and easily our current favourite at rizo. If our friends are nice to us they may score some samples!
11.01.2022 In the same week that we started on the menu at the hospital Warrnambool gets voted best place to live. Coincidence or not.....
10.01.2022 We were asked to submit a contract manufacturing bid for one of the supermarket groups. Here on the left is what they want and on the right is our Crème Caramel. The difference is stark and depressing. Seriously do supermarkets think that we want our food to be so cheap that they can sell us stuff that's bordering on not really being a food?
10.01.2022 We're getting a new baby soon. Some of us went to Brisbane to check progress yesterday. She will weigh 2 Tonne and be all shiney new. Very exciting for those of us who love cylinders, stainless steel and quiet operation.
07.01.2022 Who said you can't eat blue food?!!!
06.01.2022 We're a bit quiet at the moment so like everyone else we turn our attention to a more creative outlet. Just love Factory Grey
06.01.2022 I feel for Aged Care chefs. Can you imagine providing 3 meals and 2 snacks on $6.08 per day!! What we would like to see is more auditing of what actually gets eaten on a tray. When the food doesn't look appealing and doesn't have good taste you see that it's just not consumed so malnutrition gets worse. Maybe the corporations that own these facilities should feed all of their executives their own menu for a week and see if that brings about any improvement.
06.01.2022 We are having to do lots of tasting at the moment as our specially talented Food Tech is back in the lab creating new vegan desserts. Yum, yum #vegan #vanillavegan #healthcaredesserts
06.01.2022 We are increasing our Retail presence with the addition of Banana Custard and Tiramisu twin-packs available through Aussie Farmers Direct. Banana Custard is a low-fat snack for children. Not too high in sugar and just enough to take the hunger pangs away. And for Adult tastes, our Tiramisu is just a teeny, weeny indulgence for when you feel like an after-dinner treat. Now joining our Low Joule Jelly packs, the naughty Chocolate Mousse Twin and our Vanilla Custard. Check out Aussie Farmers if you haven't lately as lots of changes and lots of new convenient Meal Boxes for those wanting someone else to do the thinking.
05.01.2022 Happy Monday to everyone. I came in to this lovely email message:- I was recently in hospital and dead set am addicted to the pineapple jelly you guys do!! Is there anywhere I can buy it its sooooo good!! We get these messages a lot from patients. And what's lovely is not just that they like our desserts BUT that there are people who still take the trouble to tell you.... Thank goodness for people like that. I'm going to try a bit harder and concentrate this week on remembering to give positive feedback........but maybe not to that Dairy Company who hasn't delivered the cream on time for more than 2 months and can never say when we're going to get it! Or the Jelly ingredients company who just sent a price rise of 65%!! Or the vet who treated our dog for a broken bone but turns out they didn't even treat the right leg!!! So obviously I'm going to have to try a lot harder to be the bearer of positivity
05.01.2022 I think all of us in lockdown need a lift today and this should do it
03.01.2022 and from a patient at Alfred Hospital:- Better than the rest -- Magic happens
03.01.2022 Our Quality Manager, , Devashree, with the first cup of her new vegan dessert. Called Tropical Punch and it does just that. #vegan #healthcaredesserts #rizodesserts
02.01.2022 It's sample tasting time. Trying out gluten free cheesecakes and tiramisu. Pretty good but maybe next time not right after my breakfast
02.01.2022 We soon will be launching a new dessert - a delicious Chocolate Coconut Custard which happens to also be Vegan. We have all eaten quite a few in the office today. Purely for testing not for tasting! Given it's a day after the Vegan protests in Melbourne yesterday I feel like the timing is right
01.01.2022 For those that like the desserts we make for the sick and the elderly (for which we hope to go to heaven one day) please take a moment to thick about this campaign that Ardoch are running. I was once heavily involved (back in the day) and know that through the generous support of so many volunteers, including corporate mentoring ones, many children are supported so that they can, despite their circumstances, get through school and be set up for a successful life. So $20 today will be $40 to them. Think about it.....
01.01.2022 In hospitals patients don't always have much of an appetite. Jellies are great because they add a boost of energy without the heaviness. Light on the palette and easy to eat. We love our jellies and have many types (energy levels and flavours). We are working on a Vegan variety but need a new flavour. Mmmmmmm what to choose?? #yummyjellies #madeinmelbourne #healthcarefood #rizodesserts #veganjelly
