24.01.2022 ACECQA Newsletter Issue 4 2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) 23 April 2020 First aid training during COVID-19 In light of COVID-19 related restrictions, the Australian Skills Quality Authority has released advice for training providers to consider adapting practices, including changing delivery modes, re-sequencing delivery of units or components of units, and delaying workplace practical assessments.... While theoretical aspects of first aid training could be reasonably covered through online training, other more practical aspects in particular the performance of CPR on a manikin are much more challenging. In the first instance, educators should discuss any available options offered by training providers. Education and care service providers and educators are encouraged to pursue all available options to complete first aid refresher training, including completing only the theoretical aspects of the training, if necessary. State and territory regulatory authorities will consider waivers relating to the requirements for refresher training, particularly those applications supported by evidence of having actively sought training opportunities and/or completed the theoretical aspects of the training. https://campaign.acecqa.gov.au/t/i-l-xijfkd-yhkjtkikhh-a/

12.01.2022 Key Facts Fact: 30,000 Aussies suffer an out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in Australia every year, the vast majority do not survive Fact: SCA effects kids, adults and older Aussies. It effects fat Aussies and skinny Aussies. It effects fit Aussies and unfit Aussies.... Fact: Many of these SCA's (~15%) occur in public places, where bystanders can dramatically change survival rates Fact: Every minute that passes without CPR and a Defib reduces the chance of survival by 10%. Fact: On average an ambulance takes 8-12 mins to reach a victim, hence only one in four victims survive (witnessed shockable rhythm)

09.01.2022 Resuscitation during the COVID-19 pandemic ANZCOR recognises that this a difficult time for the community and health care providers. The underlying principles for CPR remain the same.... Any Attempt at Resuscitation is Better than No Attempt. What has changed with this COVID-19 pandemic is the risk to rescuers. Healthcare workers should be provided with appropriate PPE to perform their roles. Many sudden cardiac arrests occur in the presence of family members, and many will be unrelated to COVID-19. For lay rescuers who are unable or unwilling to do rescue breathing, compression only CPR is acceptable. After any attempts at resuscitation, please adhere to current advice about hand washing, cleaning and decontamination* https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncovreso https://www.health.govt.nz//dise/covid-19-novelcoronavirus NB There is currently an international review underway of resuscitation practices in the current pandemic. Guidelines will be continually updated. See https://costr.ilcor.org//covid19-infection-risk-to-rescuer

07.01.2022 Client Update: Novel Coronavirus Dear Valued Clients, This is a very extraordinary time we are in and a lot of the challenges we face are unprecedented. We just wanted to take this opportunity to reassure you that we are fully committed to ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place and we are actively monitoring the situation and adjusting plans as necessary.... We have already put in place a number of precautions relating to COVID-19 In order to minimise any risk of cross infection. These precautions are constantly under review and will be modified as necessary. 1. Course participants with signs of respiratory infections (flu-like symptoms, fever, cough, sore throat) or who have mouth or facial lesions (cold sores, chicken pox, impetigo, wounds) will not be permitted to participate in group training. If our trainers notice any of these symptoms, they will be kindly and discreetly asked to leave and rebook another session. (at no cost of disadvantage) 2. All participants are asked to be extra vigilant with good hygiene practices, especially the washing of hands before and after the use of practical sessions. 3. We will attempt to have alcohol based hand wash available at all sessions however due to the limitation of supplies available this may not be possible. If you have this on site it will be of great assistance. 4. We will increase the use of gloves in practical scenarios 5. We are using alternative equipment for CPR rescue breaths, such as a Resuscitation mask and one-way value, or bag value mask, eliminating the need for mouth-to-manikin breaths 6.Each student will be provided with alcohol wipes to wipe their manikin down before and after use. 7. We have implemented enhanced hygiene practices in relation to all of our training equipment utilized in training 8. Our trainers have been asked to be conscious of room layout to minimize the contact between participants. These measures are in place as a precaution and are appropriate based on the current knowledge of the risks presented. The arrangements will continue to be monitored and adjusted as necessary. We are also actively working on alternative strategies to ensure that you can continue to access quality training should the situation continue to develop and worsen. As these alternatives become necessary or available we will be in contact.
