09.01.2022 #WorldSightDayAU PREVENTION AND EARLY INTERVENTION - The number of Australians living with vision loss and the associated costs are likely to almost double by 2030 as the Australian population ages, unless action is taken now.... - In Australia, approximately 90% of vision loss and blindness is preventable or treatable and can be attributed to five main conditions refractive error, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataract and glaucoma. - Diabetes is a leading cause of avoidable vision loss, but currently only half of people living with diabetes get the recommended eye tests.
