05.05.2022 Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, and discrimination against intersex people. In Australia, we've come a long way since the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder on this day, in 1990. It always comes as a shock to me that it was only that short time ago when it was still unsafe for people to be their authentic selves - and that this is still the case in many places around the globe. ... RLCW is an inclusive service and works with people of all backgrounds and identities, and in this regard it is important to understand the impact that the history of the LGBTIQA+ community has on those in the community who may be struggling with their mental health, their loved ones responses to them being part of this community, and difficulties faced in accessing services in the community. There is still a long way to go, but I hope RLCW plays a positive role in people's lives as we continue to progress as a society.

This can be a tricky concept and skill to get a grasp of. I think this meme/quote is a great example of another way of thinking about that concept.

01.02.2022 Sometimes the two words are used interchangeably in day to day conversation, but they are different things. For instance you may experience the EMOTION anger when your friend bails on plans last minute for the 5th time in a row and express this with gritted teeth, a scowl, and maybe clenched muscles when they dont show. The FEELING may be that of being rejected or unwanted by the friend, feeling unworthy of their time, or feeling the other person is disrespecting you.

30.01.2022 If we can have qualified and registered counsellors on the Medicare Benefits Scheme, so many more people will be able to access mental health services in a timely manner instead of waiting months and sometimes years to access a psychologist just so they can get a Medicare rebate/the 12 free sessions. ACA and PACFA have been advocating for this for years, but more voices the better. 25.12.2021 It's important to know that anxiety is normal. Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time. It's not a pleasant experience, but it can be managed. I can assist you with managing anxiety around situations. However if your anxiety is lasting weeks or months and presents without a trigger, you may have an anxiety disorder and a psychologist or psychiatrist would be a more appropriate mental health professional to see for diagnosis.
