24.01.2022 Anything connected to the Internet is vulnerable. Hackers never sleep. Everyone in the cyber security industry knows that. As long as you connect something to the Internet it immediately becomes vulnerable. In the past years, we have seen how hackers have turned to unsecure Internet of Things (IoT) devices to create an extensive botnet which then they could use to push enough traffic to take down Dyn, a DNS provider. ... Analyst firm Gartner forecasts that 20.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide by 2020. And with the rise of autonomous things --I will call this the Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT)-- there is a good chance that many of these things will show a certain level of weak security. In 2019, it will be paramount for IoT manufacturers and all of their supply chain to dramatically increase the security in all the products that come out to market. It can be a connected refrigerator, a robot, a drone, a vehicle, or a health tracker. Unless manufacturers implement a level of security that keeps hackers at bay, there is a good chance we are going to witness a global IoT security breach in 2019. An excerpt from: https://interestingengineering.com/5-technology-trends-to-w Who knows they may use your computer via your WFi enabled lights for Cryptomining, just a thought.

24.01.2022 What a week its been! From the continuing and might we say, completely unexpected, toilet paper shortage of 2020 to manic stockpiling to the new wave of COVID-19 phishing emails taking advantage of Aussies who are already on edge. One thing that COVID-19 is proving to us is the distinct need for technology to move fluidly and seamlessly during unprecedented times. With quarantine, self-isolation, and social distancing now the words that will likely define 2020, technology ...has to advance and adapt today. Not in a weeks time, not at the end of the month, but now. Isolation however is a concept that many in regional, rural, and remote communities are all too familiar with. Computers keep our businesses running and connect us to the greater community and the loss of a computer has always meant either going without until the next town trip or stopping work, fueling up and heading into town for repairs. Its costly, time consuming, and an absolute nuisance. RLE Computers recognised the need for Managed Services back in 2012 and weve been fine-tuning our offerings ever since. Managed Services enables us to log in to your system remotely and carry out repairs to get you back up and running quickly and without the hassle and cost of heading into town. It also allows us to remotely monitor your system and predict problems before they happen again saving you downtime, money, and inconvenience. In addition, we can offer Antivirus and Web Protection to suit home and SME and state-of-the-art SentinelOne AI for serious home users and larger businesses all managed locally. If youre interested in our RLE Managed Services feel free to comment below or message us for further details.

20.01.2022 Its been a couple of weeks since Scott Morrison confirmed news that Australian government agencies and businesses were the target of malicious cyber attacks and theres been very little news since. Crisis over and problem solved, right? Wrong. Since Morrisons announcement, RLE has seen an exponential increase in cyber attacks against local businesses and organisations. On a good day (pre-COVID), Id have been lucky to come across 10 attempts at malicious attacks. A bad da...y pre-COVID was about 50-100 attempted attacks. Right now and every day for the past fortnight Ive been encountering up to 100,000 attempted attacks per day. You read that right. From 10 attempted attacks per day to 100,000 per day. Let that sink in for a minute. 100,000 attempts at destroying everything on your hard drive. 100,000 attempts at stealing everything precious to you. 100,000 attempts at destroying your business. 100,000 attempts... If youre under-protected right now, quite simply, you are in the danger zone. Secure your 2020 Security Package and use the code 2020DEAL and for a limited time youll get a $119 discount! https://rle.com.au/products/the-2020-security-package

19.01.2022 This was released yesterday by Microsoft, they are patches for known vulnerabilities from Windows 7 to latest Windows 10 and Servers. Make sure your computers are patched is the message from Microsoft. I received this email from our Managed Services provider. =============================================== Department of Homeland Security Issues Emergency Directive for Microsoft Critical Vulnerabilities... By Gill Langston 14 January, 2020 Today Microsoft released several patches to address critical vulnerabilities. Several were of enough concern to prompt the Department of Homeland Security to issue an Emergency Directive ordering all Federal agencies to patch these vulnerabilities within the next ten days. The vulnerabilities are found in the Windows CryptoAPI, as well as Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) on both RDP Gateway Servers and RDP Clients. Here are the descriptions with links to the Microsoft Security Center so you can review the KB articles associated with them. CVE-2020-0601 is a CryptoAPI spoofing vulnerability and affects Windows 10, Server 2016, and Server 2019, and could potentially allow an attacker to bypass antivirus and perform malicious actions on an affected endpoint. It is listed as Important and Exploitation More Likely by Microsoft. CVE-2020-0609 and CVE-2020-0610 affect Remote Desktop Gateway on Windows Server 2012, 2012R2, 2016, and 2019 and could allow an attacker to execute code without any user interaction and with no authentication. These are listed as Critical and Exploitation More Likely by Microsoft. CVE-2020-0611 affects Remote Desktop Clients on all supported versions of Windows and Windows Server (including Windows 7) and could be exploited if a user is tricked into connecting to a Remote Desktop Server under the attackers control. This vulnerability is listed as Critical and Exploitation Less Likely. While there are no active attacks at this time, these types of vulnerabilities attract bad actors who will attempt to use them for breach attempts. It is recommended to approve and deploy this months security updates for all affected operating systems as soon as possible in your environment(s), with special attention given for any Internet facing systems first. We will update this blog if an attack is detected in the wild. We want to make sure you stay informed

17.01.2022 Sensitive data left exposed on systems poses a great risk to your customers. Often, companies amass large amounts of sensitive personally identifiable information (PII), including social security numbers, drivers license numbers, credit card information, and more in dispersed persistent storage. SolarWinds Risk Intelligence roots out sensitive data and potential vulnerabilities no matter where they are stored, providing actionable insights for sensitive data protection so you can mitigate the risk. If youre unsure if your computer is littered with personal information then send a message to find out how to get your computer checked for a Risk Assessment with an accompanying PDF document with all the details. We can work with you to reduce your exposure.

11.01.2022 We are under attack from cyber criminals 24/7, if you have employees that connect remotely then locking down your server just got harder. I am seeing more than 50,00 attempted logins per 24 hours on servers we monitor (that havent been locked down) this shows how relentlessly persistent cyber criminals are and indicates they are using botnets to target computers with open ports especially Remote Access ports. If your concerned about your data please send a message so we can discuss options available.

11.01.2022 The following article cites security as the main reason to update to Windows 10. RLE Computers can supply a computer system to suit your needs so check out our range of computer systems. Contact us on 02 67526177, [email protected] or https://www.rle.com.au. Windows 7 reached End Of Life (EOL) on 14 January 2020, but a large number of the worlds computers, most in corporate environments, are still running the nine-year-old system.... Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 in January 2015, with extended support running till 14 January 2020. Businesses which fail to migrate in time will be saddled with high fees for further support from Microsoft. This End of Life means no more bug-fixes, security patches or new functionality, making any user - personal or enterprise - significantly more susceptible to malware attacks. Windows 7 was the version of Windows most widely affected by WannaCry in 2017. Without patches, Windows 7 is still vulnerable to the recently disclosed BlueKeep bug and several other flaws that Microsoft patched in August. If you are one of the remaining stalwarts of Windows 7, you should understand that using an unsupported operating system poses serious security risks. Hackers and other criminals in the cyber community will target Windows 7 machines as new vulnerabilities are discovered. Rather than continuing with Windows 7 after its end of life date, you should upgrade to the fully supported and patched Windows 10 operating system. Cybercriminals to this day target the unsupported XP machines that are still in existence. The global malware outbreaks of WannaCry and NotPetya wreaked havoc on companies and organizations all over the world by taking advantage of the well-known exploit called EternalBlue. This vulnerability was so severe that Microsoft released a patch even though extended support had reached its end of life years beforehand. Unfortunately, the patch required a manual update, and to this day, many unpatched machines run in this highly vulnerable state. In summary, non-supported operating systems like Windows 7 are vulnerable to exploits by dangerous cyber criminals.
