21.01.2022 Croup is common in children between the ages of six months and five years and is more common in winter. While most instances can be treated safely at home, crou...p can worsen quickly so it's important to know the sign and symptoms. Try these tips for caring for your child at home. Keep your child calm it’s important they remain calm; if they are distressed, symptoms will worsen. Keep your child upright sitting up can help them breathe easier. Give them some children’s paracetamol (in recommended doses) - this can help lower their fever and make them feel better if they are unsettled. No steam treatment or vaporiserssteamy rooms (such as bathrooms) and vaporisers DO NOT help croup. If your child is having problems breathing, seek urgent medical attention.

18.01.2022 A private school in the Logan area has been notified of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in an employee. The woman, who is under isolation, tested positive late ye...sterday after returning from interstate last week. The school will temporarily close until further notification to allow for cleaning and work will commence on contact tracing. We are working to determine where the virus may have been acquired, including working with the woman to gather necessary information about places she may have visited whilst infectious. As always, we strongly recommend everyone with symptoms to immediately get tested. Vigilance is key to keeping community transmission out of Queensland. We will provide further information during the day if any public health alerts are required.

15.01.2022 Queensland has 3 cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) today. One case recently returned from overseas and is in hotel quarantine. The other two cases recently retur...ned from NSW and were not in a declared hotspot at the time. Both were in self-imposed quarantine since their return from NSW and now remain in isolation. There are currently 11 active cases of COVID-19 in Queensland. Currently, 5 of the active cases are in hospital. To date, 1,065 people have recovered and sadly, 6 people have died of the disease. This brings the total number of cases to 1,082. Each day, total cases may not equal active plus recovered plus deaths, as information for some cases is still pending and will be updated in due course. Detailed information about COVID-19 cases in Queensland including maps of cases by HHS and LGA, likely source of infection, age and gender, testing completed, and self-quarantine notices issued, can be found here: www.health.qld.gov.au/covid-data

09.01.2022 Nice work, Queensland! Because of your great work in following good hygiene practices, socially distancing and getting the flu shot, flu numbers this year are s...ignificantly lower than what they have been in the last five flu seasons and are 84% lower than this time last year! Research suggests that Queenslanders have greatly improved their hygiene practices, which has helped to stop the spread of flu in our community.
