10.01.2022 Summer is just around the cornerYour horses bodies are working very hard to start shedding their winter coats and regrowing their summer coat. Older horses may start to drop weight and show some lethargic behaviour. For them it’s hard work and takes A lot of energy. Younger horses may start to show some spring freshness and become a little naughty. Colic is higher risk through the changes of season, just as it is through high rain periods.... The grass is changing the daylight is getting longer and breeding season is only a few months away so excitement is in the air , they all know it’s coming. Fence injuries are also always higher this time of year. Spring brings grass with a high sugar content so laminitis is something to prepare for or prevent against especially for chubby little ponies.
