18.01.2022 On June 30th C31 Melbourne and Geelong was set to be turned off for good... Luckily, the Government made a last minute decision to extend C31s license for another 12 months. Not so lucky though was that RMITV already had plans to be part of a final send off for C31 called RMITVs Last Laugh . Well, we went ahead with it anyway and this is the result. Enjoy, quite frankly, a bit of a train wreck... ... https://youtu.be/qVweygOKPhw

05.01.2022 Just announced on Q and A: Minister Paul Fletcher says C31 Melbourne and Geelong will be extended another 12 months

05.01.2022 On behalf of the Management Team and the Board here at RMITV, we are so pleased with the governments decision to keep C31 Melbourne and Geelong on air for another 12 months. As one of the founding members of the Melbourne Community Television Consortium, C31 is an important part of RMITVs history. C31 has provided our members with first hand media-making skills to take into the media industry and beyond. We are so grateful to C31 for giving us the platform to create our c...ontent. While we are extremely happy with the news; we cant help but feel this decision is history repeating itself. Every year since 2014-15, the government has continued to threaten the removal of C31s broadcast license. Time and time again, with outcry from our community, the government has extended the license for another 12 months under the proviso that C31 move to a digital platform. However, we still believe there is room for Community TV. The online world is extremely cluttered, meanwhile broadcast TV has the reach to allow minorities and those on the fringes of society to have their voices heard. These voices would be lost if C31 were to move to a digital-only platform. Our members dont start out as experts in the field, they grow through working on C31 programs and through experimenting with their own style. To eliminate C31s broadcast licence would eliminate that growth and pigeon hole our members into making formulaic digital content to attract views Without being caught up in views and traction, our members can create content free of those constraints, while still being high enough quality to be broadcast on Community TV. Being able to focus on the creativity of their ideas, while working in a real broadcast TV environment is a benefit overlooked by our Federal government. So while we are pleased with the governments decision to keep C31 on air, we cant help but fear that they are missing the point as to why C31 should remain on air and not simply become a digital platform. To our members, dont stop engaging with Community TV and Community Media as a whole. Make your voices heard and continue to fight for C31 until our 12 months are up again.
