23.01.2022 Something for us all to think about- please share- Thought for the day. I have heard it said many times that Healthcare workers are making jokes and not taking COVID 19 seriously. I would like to bring 4 facts to your attention. First, to work in Healthcare you must have a sick/dark sense of humour - sorry it’s just a requirement. And if you aren’t one of us, you don’t understand. Secondly, just because we aren’t buying 50 cases of Baked Beans and fighting over the last can o...f Antibac spray or loo roll at our local Shop , it doesn’t mean we aren’t preparing. And most of us don't have the income to stockpile, Actually, we go to work daily not knowing what diseases we may come in contact with..... So, infection prevention and standard precautions are part of our everyday life. Third, when has mass hysteria helped any situation? Maybe we are trained to stay calm, cool, and collected in stressful situations. And last but not the least...while everyone is concerned about travel bans, government enforced quarantines, and being out of school/work for who knows how long, who do you think will still be allowed and required to go to work? You guessed it right..!! Healthcare workers! We will go knowing that we and our families are at risk whilst we take care of yours. 15.01.2022 Problems with the New ATO Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) There has been a lot of enquiries relating to ongoing problems with the new ATO Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH). We have been in contact with the Tax Office who are committed to clearing up BAS Agents issue with the new SBSCH access. 14.01.2022 PAYMENT SUMMARY- NOW INCOME STATEMENT Single Touch Payroll (STP) changes how you report your employees' end of financial year (EOFY) information to your employees and the ATO. What you need to know... You no longer need to provide your employees with a payment summary for payments reported through STP. You will have until 31 July to 'finalise' your employees' EOFY payroll information through your STP enabled software for the 2018-19 financial year. You can also finalise this information as soon as it is ready after 30 June. You are no longer required to lodge a payment summary annual report for the amounts reported through STP as long as you complete the finalisation declaration by the finalisation date. What you need to do You need to tell your employees: you will not be providing them with a payment summary their payment summary information will be called an income statement in ATO online in myGov they will need to log into their myGov account, select ATO online services, click on my profile, select my employment and then income statement to access this information if they use a registered agent to lodge their income tax return, their agent will receive their income statement information directly from the ATO if they don't have access or cannot create a myGov account and don't use a registered agent they can call us on 13 28 61 and we'll provide this information to them. 12.01.2022 Watch for scammers Beware of ATO Scammers New Trends in ATO Scams The ATO has noticed an alarming new trend in scam activity involving scammers impersonating TAX and BAS agents. This new scam is effective because clients are trusting of their representatives, so you need to encourage your clients to take care.... In a twist on the ‘fake tax debt’ scam, we have received increasing reports of a new scam method where scammers impersonate registered agents to lend legitimacy to their phone call. The fraudsters do this by: coercing the victim into revealing their agent's name initiating a three-way phone conversation between the scammer, the victim, and another scammer impersonating the victim's registered agent or someone from the agent's practice. Victims have fallen for this new approach. In one recent example, a victim withdrew thousands of dollars in cash and deposited it into a Bitcoin ATM, fearing police had a warrant out for their arrest. The phone conversation with the scammers appeared legitimate, and the victim trusted the advice of the scammer ‘tax agent’. What You Can Do Help protect your reputation, your clients' information and their money from these scammers. Let your clients know we will never: demand immediate payments threaten them with arrest request payment by unusual means such as iTunes vouchers, store gift cards or Bitcoin cryptocurrency. If your client is suspicious about a phone call from someone claiming to be us, the ATO recommends they disconnect and call 1800 008 540 to verify the call. Alternatively, your client can hang up the call and contact you directly to confirm the status of their tax affairs. The ATO have already shared information about the scam through the media, including television, radio and social media. To spread the warning message to your clients, you may consider sharing the ATO and ICB social media posts with your clients. See more

11.01.2022 Single Touch Payroll The ATO want to reassure small business and give their guarantee that their approach to extending Single Touch Payroll will be flexible, reasonable and pragmatic. The ATO will offer micro employers (1 to 4 employees) help to transition to STP and a number of alternative options such as allowing those who rely on a registered tax or BAS agent to report quarterly for the first two years.
