13.01.2022 Im often asked... Hows business? and I usually politely respond with something like Great, really busy or Booked out for weeks but thats a good problem to have, right? As a one person operation it can be difficult to say no to customer requests for high priority bookings or react to urgent repairs when you know that its going to be near impossible to get their job done within regular business hours. For many months Ive simply just worked extra by starting earlier &... then into the evenings & then on my days off etc. At some point something has to change otherwise my work quality suffers and or my physical/ mental health deteriorates. Well-meaning friends will suggest to just say no, or dont respond to messages or phone calls out of hours. Those who run their own small business know all too well that, simply ignoring customers is definitely a bad idea. Business success is often defined by big profits and/or constant growth, however my definition is doing what I love & loving what I do. My definition means having enough money to live comfortably without undue stress, allowing personal time not to be overun by business demands. Growth in the form of hiring staff or renting/ buying bigger premises is my idea of undue stress. Through speaking with friends, family, customers & business mentors & via loads of research, Ive recognised that managing my customers expectations through clear & concise communication is paramount. In the next phase of becoming my version of successful, I will be focusing on better communication. Thanks for reading Stay tuned... Pedal Happy Paul Bowden - Road Bike Rescue

11.01.2022 NeoRetro at its best #carbonsteed #roadbikerescue This early 80s MERCKX frame is a family heirloom passed down the generations. The customer wanted to restore the well used frame into something truly special but very modern.... I can honestly say this bike rides as well if not better than ANY bike I've had the pleasure of riding EVER. That's a BIG call for sure. Now with a modern carbon Colombus fork, modern XXX carbon integrated bar & stem plus matching XXX carbon post the bike is beautifully smooth & responsive. The fully restored Colombus SL steel frame is kitted out with an internally wired 1 X 8050/9150 Di2 drivetrain matched to custom built wheels. The hubs have been machined to fit the old school frame dropout measurements using Mavic Open Pro Couche Dure rims laced with DT Swiss Champion spokes to Hope RS4 11 speed hubs. The paint colours were selected to match the owners Royal Airforce uniform featuring his regiment motto on the top tube & logo on the head tube. So many details worth the trouble for the brilliant end result. I think I love this bike as much as the customer does Sadly, my amateur photos simply don't do this steed justice. Below is some interesting background information on Eddy Merckx & his bikes & his association with De Rosa. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_Merckx_Cycles

04.01.2022 For Sale: for the smaller rider Neo retro build. Some brand new parts, some used but excellent condition. I put this together because I had everything here as parts. The ride far exceeds expectations. PACONI steel frame, Reynolds 531 with Suntour dropouts & threadless carbon fork (alloy steerer)... Built by renowned Australian frame builder, Kevin Wigham in approximately late 80s or early 90s. All original paint in fair condition but IMHO worth the effort & expense for a new professional paint job. Otherwise, if youre not concerned with the look its absolutely ready to ride. Serial number is stamped on the BB shell simply as KW. Smoother ride than any plastic (carbon) bike on the market. Effective top tube: 510mm Seat tube: 510mm Head tube: 100mm Wheelbase: 955mm Steerer: 197mm Shimano Ultegra R8000 shifters - new Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 11 speed rear derailleur - used Shimano Ultegra 6800 band on front derailleur - used Shimano Ultegra 8000 crankset: 50/34, 165mm - used Tektro Quartz R750 carbon brake calipers - new old stock Shimano HG-601, 11 speed chain - new Shimano 105, 7000 series 11-28 cassette - new Prologo Kappa DEA saddle - used Fizik 2.5mm Endurance classic bar tape - new Pro PLT ergo bars: alloy, 380mm (c2c) short & shallow - new Pro PLT stem: alloy 80mm - new Ritchey WCS 1 inch threadless headset - new Giant carbon post: 27.2mm, 15mm setback - used Velocity Deep V 20/24 Wheelset: DT Champion spokes - new Maxxis Cormet 23mm tyres - used but lots of life left Jetblack cages included. Option to have used Mavic Aksium wheelset fitted instead to reduce total price by $350. If youre more concerned with ride quality than having the latest piece of marketing, then this bike will really impress at a fraction of a new bike price. Please PM me if youre interested. Ill include a comprehensive bike fit to ensure its right for you. Also, if you want to go the extra expense & get it painted, Ill even rebuild it for you post paint job at no charge... Yep... 02.01.2022 Success... Lately, Ive been pondering what success means. Im sure the answer is different for everyone. Having Googled What is success I found numerous answers.. ... For me aka Road Bike Rescue, success definitely has many layers. In monetary terms, I feel successful in simply being able to make a living doing something I love. As a sole trader I am certainly striving for that elusive life/ work balance. With life/ work balance in mind, Im taking a well earned holiday to this years Tour Down Under in Adelaide. The workshop will therefore be closed from Sunday the 19th of January until Tuesday the 4th of February. In the meantime I am extremely grateful for the continued support from my customers. If success can be measured by the number of referrals & subsequent bookings then we are going great guns! Road Bike Rescue is literally booked out everyday from now until I leave for the TDU. I will definitely make time for customer emergencies during the next two weeks however I am unable to take any more bookings for services/ general maintenance. Any current bookings still stand and I will endeavour to complete any other work still outstanding. See you back in the workshop February 4th. Thanks again!! Sincerely, Paul
