22.01.2022 This is an update from a previous article :-) https://www.roadcraft.bike/post/what-is-advanced-riding

22.01.2022 The number of motorcycle fatalities in Queensland is always large and this year has seen a huge spike. I see endless posts about how car drivers need to take more care. However, almost 50% of motorcycle fatalities involve no other vehicles. The rider is deemed to be at fault in more than 50% of crashes, partly at fault in around 15% and the other driver at fault in only a third of all fatalities. Car drivers aren't killing motorcyclists; motorcyclists are! Even when the ot...her party is at fault, there is almost always something that the rider could have done to anticipate the actions of the other road user and avoid the crash. Defensive rider training is designed to give you the skills to ride in the correct position and speed to anticipate the potential risks and minimise them. You owe it to yourself to upgrade your skills and practice them. https://research.qut.edu.au//FINAL-Motorcycle-Safety-2017-

21.01.2022 Roadcraft Australia will not be available for any bookings until September as I am travelling back to the UK for a project. Please feel free to post or message for comments or advice.

19.01.2022 This is a great video explaining positioning through a series of bends :-)

18.01.2022 This video is a tough watch but it's great for understanding the process of immediate actions and managing a crash scene involving trauma. It's really useful, especially if you ride in Groups. If you haven't done any first aid training or not refreshed it for a while then I would recommend doing a course, ideally a bike focussed one, as you never know when someone's life could depend on it; possibly one of your mates! I'm looking to refresh myself as you can never have too much training :-) https://youtu.be/-JWkd4JTcbs

18.01.2022 I had a brilliant day yesterday with Vickie on her Harley. Vickie was already a safe and observant rider but wanted to get more confident in the corners. By entering in a more neutral configuration and adding power to maintain speed as she started the turn, she soon increased her average corner speed and felt more in control. We even got a bit of wet weather riding training in Beaudesert as a bonus :-)

11.01.2022 While I'm working in the UK, I took the opportunity to do some off road riding in the Yorkshire Dales on an ex-British Army MT350; a bike I've not ridden for over 20 years. Despite a bit of rain (it's the English summer after all) it was an awesome day; refreshing my loose surface skills in stunning countryside:-)

11.01.2022 Is this Australia's most pointless road sign? If your observation skills are so poor that you don't notice the entire road and scenery disappearing, are you likely to notice a small yellow sign?

07.01.2022 Had a great morning training with Rhett yesterday on Mount Nebo and Glorious. He wanted to improve his cornering and he very quickly learnt that by selecting the appropriate gear, Rhett could use his throttle to control his entry speed and not have to brake. Looking ahead, assessing the bend and entering the corner more slowly and balanced and by increasing the throttle as he turned the bike was much more stable. He was completely in control, able to deal with unexpected situations and his average corner speed increased. Rhett was a great student and, in just half a day, he personified the ability to become smoother, faster and safer :-)

06.01.2022 I see a lot of people with black helmets. Your helmet is the most visible part of you when riding towards traffic so it's worth choosing a brightly coloured one :-) https://youtu.be/t8f9p4ezHb8

04.01.2022 I like this guy; he talks a lot of sense. I don't agree with everything he says but he's right about this element of riding :-) https://youtu.be/kvm4Wm_ZvuE

04.01.2022 A great session with Justine yesterday who had confidence issues with slow speed riding. Within an hour she had overcome her fear and was back in total control. We then went for a ride to confirm her general riding which was already very good; smooth, fast and safe :-)

03.01.2022 This is what i tried to post a few weeks ago but this is much more eloquently put :-)

03.01.2022 I've got my first cycle event tomorrow as a Moto Marshall for Cycling Queensland. It's only a local event but it will bring back some great memories :-)

02.01.2022 Slow speed riding causes a lot of stress but once you understand the principles it is much easier to do. There are different schools of thought but this is the method I use to keep it simple so hope it helps: The bike is only stable when it's pulling forward, in the same way as normal cornering. If you shut off the power the bike wants to fall; adding power makes the bike stand up. If the bike wants to drop during a turn then it's because you're not driving it forward. This i...Continue reading
