12.01.2022 It's another set of eyes on the road and data at our fingertips Benalla Highway Patrol is utilising the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system to help de...tect offences during the statewide road policing operation, Op Saturn. All Benalla Highway Patrol vehicles are fitted with four cameras, which can read number plates on vehicles travelling in the same or opposite direction, both day and night. The number plates are scanned and instantly alert police if a vehicle is unregistered or if the registered owner is unlicensed or have other conditions on their licence. This technology can detect offences that may have not been detected until after a vehicle is intercepted and allows the members of the police force to focus on the fatal five causes of road trauma: speed, fatigue, distraction, no seatbelts and impaired driving.
