Positive feedback from the public is noticing the huge progress eradicating widespre...ad weeds in the region, which were threatening to invade and out-compete the high quality native vegetation along the roadsides. We will continue to monitor and treat these sites each year, in order to eradicate these invasive weeds from the precious area. You can learn more about how we are managing our environment here: https://www.transport.tas.gov.au//managing_the_roads/manag

04.01.2022 There’s been a lot happening on the Midland Highway lately. We just started work on upgrades to two sections of the highway, from Powranna Road to south of Symmons Plains and from south of Blackman River Bridge to Tunbridge Tier Road. During the works, we will be widening and rehabilitating the road, and adding safety barriers. These projects, as well as sections from Melton Mowbray and north of Lovely Banks, and at Spring Hill, will be completed in winter 2021.... We’ve also finished the section between St Peters Pass and south of Tunbridge. In this project, we improved the road alignment and junctions, extended sealed shoulders, added overtaking lanes, and installed a flexible safety barrier. These works are part of the Midland Highway 10 Year Action Plan, which will upgrade the whole Highway to a minimum 3 star ANCAP safety rating. We have a regular mowing program to control grass, small trees and weeds near the road. We mow all year round, but the program ramps up in spring each year as rain and warmer weather causes the grass to grow. Mowing is very dependent on the weather, so our mowing works aren’t always entered into our roadworks roundup, and can change at short notice. ... If you notice road workers out and about on the roadside, please slow down, and follow the directions of traffic signs.
