23.01.2022 Hi everyone. This was originally my excursion into the blogosphere. I've now changed the name of this page to ROAR (Rest On Arms Reversed) which is my emerging prayer-based, pastoral ministry initiative for veterans, their families and their friends.... I hope to keep you all updated with developments very soon! God bless.

22.01.2022 Hey everybody. FYI - I've come down with the head-cold that's doing the rounds, so this afternoon's (7 Sep) ROAR service is cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience. On another note, I know this page has been very quiet - but I'm on the verge of setting up a website (along with a PDF promotional brochure) and the ministry has branched out into providing chaplaincy support for a local aged-care facility.... Will provide a more comprehensive update very soon. Cheers and God bless, Neil

21.01.2022 Is this God's providence? In our quest to set up a veterans' ministry, have a look at the facade that Michelle and I spotted at the new Moran Aged Care facility in Engadine.

18.01.2022 Hi everybody. Well, what a week it's been! I'm sure many of you would be wondering how things went with last Wednesday's inaugural ROAR event at St Andrews Cathedral?... Well, thanks to God's providence (and your ongoing prayers) there were 11 of us that met and started to discuss how we might prayerfully support veterans, their families and friends. A really, really good start! (Especially if you consider that this number represents nearly 10% of the total number of people we usually attract to the Healing Service) I hope and pray we will have the same (or greater) interest for the 18th of June??? On another note, I'm extremely pleased to announce that I now have approval to conduct a weekly service at Engadine Presbyterian Church! In a matter of 4-6 weeks we will be commencing a service at 2:30pm on Sunday at Engadine. We've chosen this time slot in the hope that members of other churches might come along to better equip themselves to pastorally care for the extended veteran community within their own churches. We're also hopeful that in the medium term we will have a Skype capability available before/after the service so that members of the congregation can contact deployed friends and family while it is early Sunday morning in the Middle East. It is a very exciting time as we launch these ministry initiatives, and I'd feel very blessed for your ongoing prayers and for your support (by liking this page) and any feedback. God bless you all. Neil

18.01.2022 Good news everybody. We're starting to market this ministry's activities and (as a result of running around this morning) we are about 4-6 weeks away from having a website. Will post the address soon.....so, "watch this space". Also, I've been working on a brochure/flyer. A PDF version will be posted on here soon and with the help of Engadine Presbyterian Church - we might get a modest letterbox drop done in coming weeks.... Thanks in advance for your prayers and support. Neil

18.01.2022 Hi everybody, and a happy Independence Day to the American members of our ROAR community! Did you know though that the 4th of July is also a significant date in the military history of both Australia and the USA? On this day in 1918, the US Army took part in their first formal action of WW1 during the Battle of Hamel (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Hamel). This battle was led by Australia's Lieutenant General Sir John Monash and was one of the earliest examples of a... successful combined-arms battles. Many American troops were trained by Australians in the work-up for this operation, and it's examples such as this that illustrate our bonds as brothers-in-arms and allies. On another note, it's only a couple of days until the weekly ROAR service gets underway. If any of you have any prayer requests (noting that in the context of the service - we only use first names, or a single initial for SF personnel), please feel free to forward them to me via personal message or email - [email protected] Blessings to you all, Neil

17.01.2022 Hi everybody and welcome to those of you who have only recently liked this page. At the present time this is the only web presence that this ministry has (we're working on a grant to fund a website) - so I'd very much appreciate it if you would share this page or posts with your friends and encourage them to like our little piece of cyberspace. I have a bit of an update on activities across the ROAR Ministry. We held the second of our monthly prayer/support group at St Andre...w's Cathedral Sydney last week (after the Healing Service). Including myself and Michelle, we had nine people attend and we reflected upon how the current situation in Iraq might be affecting the veteran community. I introduced the group to the concepts of "Just War" and we came up with three points to remember when dealing with veterans (and their spiritual needs): 1. Acknowledge a veteran's "felt need" and try to see their hurts against a backdrop of "moral injury". 2. Put your political opinions aside - soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines (yes, for you Aussies - we have British and American interest in this site...lol) try to maintain an a-political approach, and to express a personal, political opinion may not be helpful. 3. There is always HOPE, in a future in which Jesus Christ is a part! By this we also discussed that despite however hopeless or damaged a person feels - we're all redeemable for God. On another note, we're also counting down to our first weekly ROAR Service. In only 12 days time we will be starting our weekly service at Engadine Presbyterian Church (2:30pm, 6 Jul 14 at 78 Anzac Ave, Engadine) - all are welcome and I will be talking about the "Centurion's Faith" in a message entitled "Called to Serve, Called to Heal". Would be wonderful to see you there. (Please see the events tab for more info). Blessings and prayers to you all. Neil

15.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just a short reminder that our first ever ROAR event will be this Wednesday! We've managed to set up a short prayer/support group for veterans, their families and friends on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, immediately following the Healing Service at St Andrews Cathedral, Town Hall (Sydney).... The Healing Service starts at 6:00pm with the ROAR group meeting from about 7:30pm. Would love to see you there if you happen to be kicking around the Sydney CBD. God bless, Neil

14.01.2022 G'day ROAR community. I would appreciate your prayers this morning as I present a lecture on "Understanding Theological Reflection (for Pastoral Contexts)". Please feel free to comment on this post if you also believe there might be value in making the lecture notes available on-line.... God bless and have a wonderful day. Neil

13.01.2022 Hello friends. I have some wonderful news! During last night's Healing Service at Sydney's St Andrews Cathedral I was interviewed in front of the congregation about the ROAR Ministry initiative.... Last night it was publicly announced that our very first ROAR activity will be held on Wednesday the 21 May 14 following the Healing Service (approx. 7:30pm). This will be a regular event on the third Wednesday of the month. Everyone is welcome for this prayer/support group, and I'd be most grateful for your on-going prayers. For those of you that are close to Sutherland Shire "watch this space"! I'm in the final stages of preparing administrative/pastoral materials to commence a weekly, Sunday afternoon service. Thanks again and God bless. Neil PS: So excited to continue my association with the Sydney Healing Ministry.....and have attached their link FYI. :-) www.sydneyheal.com

09.01.2022 An insightful post on how we might respectfully engage with veterans. http://online.wsj.com//SB100014240527023039800045795764230

07.01.2022 Hey folks. Been very busy at this end, so I apologise for not having posted anything here for a while. Well, things are very much underway at Engadine Presbyterian Church for our Sunday afternoon ROAR service. Over the last two Sundays we've attracted a core group of wonderful people from out morning congregation. The people are now really well equipped to pray with others who might visit our service in their time of need.... We're also very excited about the fact that Andrew C. and myself will be meeting with a local organisation today - in the hope that we can develop an additional dimension to the ROAR ministry (will fill you all in as soon as I'm able). I encourage you all (and any of your friends) to join with us this Sunday at 2:30pm at Engadine Presbyterian (78 Anzac Ave, Engadine) - I will be speaking on loneliness against the backdrop of Psalm 139 and we will be praying for the family and friends of both LCPL Todd Chidgey and SGT Gary Francis. God bless, Neil

06.01.2022 Hi everybody. Today I'm in a position to make a wonderful announcement! I am pleased to announce that the ROAR ministry's weekly prayer (healing) service will commence at 2:30pm on the 6th of July at Engadine Presbyterian Church (78 Anzac Ave, Engadine).... The service will be modelled on the St Andrews Cathedral Healing Service, and is suitable for people from all denominational backgrounds and even those struggling with their faith. See the "events" tab for further info, and please feel free to share and like this page among your friends. We also have the monthly support/prayer group coming up on Wednesday the 18 June at about 7:30pm at St Andrews Cathedral. I have the privilege of preaching at the Healing Service that evening too - with that service starting at 6pm. Regards and God bless, Neil

02.01.2022 Good morning friends, bothers and sisters. It would be wholly inappropriate to let today pass by without acknowledging the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. Veterans of this era are becoming fewer and fewer - yet it is increasingly important to remember the scale of such events, and; the extent to which entire nations were mobilised and whole populations were immersed in the consequences of war.... In bringing peace and healing to veterans both young and old, I encourage everybody to reflect on the way in which our predecessors shared in the austere conditions of war, and the way that communities turned to God for guidance and reassurance. The attached link includes a transcript of President Roosevelt's D-Day prayer. Well worth a read - as we remember those who have gone before us. God bless, Neil http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/fdr-prayer.htm

01.01.2022 G'day everyone. I suspect that some of you may have forgotten that this page exists? I know that I've been very quiet here. The good news is that very soon I hope to be in a position to relaunch the ROAR Ministry - including a renewed web presence and an additional focus on research & resources for ministry to military veterans! Thanks for your ongoing support and God bless.... Neil Warnock
