13.01.2022 MOBILITY MATTERS - - - We all like to push ourselves in the gym, especially with all that fun strength and conditioning stuff.... - - Unfortunately...mobility is often something that is overlooked. - - I've certainly payed the price over the years for not taking this seriously and I still have a long way to go and am very much still a student!! - - - These 3 exercises will give you a lot of bang for your buck...especially if your time poor and just want to get on with your workout - - - (1 Jefferson Curl- * * This is a great one that targets the hamstrings, calves as well as mobilising through the spine. Slow is the way to go and imagine your trying to collapse your spine piece by piece. Go easy on the weight too! - - Lunge Matrix * * This is one I kind of adapted but it will help to open out your hips which are often in a tight position whilst sitting, the straightening of your front knee will help to stretch the hamstring and the rotation (done correctly) will help to open out your mid back and chest-another 2 areas that often get locked up from sitting all day. - - Shoulder Dislocates * * Again I adapted this one slightly. Grip a light bar or broom stick and find a width that will enable you to keep your arms straight and not extend your lower back. This is a great one for freeing up the shoulder joint and those tight biceps. - - - 5 minutes or more at the start of your workout will go along way to helping prepare the body and avoid those annoying niggling injuries! - - Train hard, train smart. - - Also guess I better thank Credit the Notorious BIG with the soundtrack. 10.01.2022 3 months on from my photoshoot with the awesome @simonlephotog - - - I have to say I've relaxed a lot with my nutrition recently and my lifestyle is a lot more flexible. ... - - - I have another shoot scheduled in a week or so..will I be as shredded as I am in this picture?? Absolutely not!! Will I still be in reasonable condition?? I would say so. - - - The key to staying in shape has just been to maintain a healthy balance of training 2-3 times per week, moving regularly, tracking a majority of my food intake, cooking healthy and tasty food, drinking water and not getting too stressed out about things.. - - - Life is far too short to not enjoy the odd takeaway or night out on the gin and tonics (which I've been doing my fair share of recently) - - - The reason a lot of people fail to stay in shape year round is they view things with such an all or nothing mentality. They say things like "I need to get in shape for this wedding" or "Summers round the corner..I best get on a health kick" - - - Wouldn't it be nice to just find a balance of a healthy lifestyle and healthy habits so you wouldn't need to stress every time summer comes along or you have a wedding or holiday coming up?! - - - I dieted and focused so hard on getting in shape for my photoshoot. Staying in that condition was always going to be difficult. However I have my healthy habits and routines to thank for keeping me somewhere close and now I'm still fairly confident the cameras will be kind to me next week. - - - Now there's nothing wrong with putting your foot on the gas a little and having a reason or a deadline to improve your health and condition..but just think about what happens afterwards... Is what you were doing sustainable? Or can you find a middle ground?! - - - Staying in shape and being healthy is a lifetime gig. 03.01.2022 A little niggle in my wrist and forearm has resulted in no weight training this week - - -... However when one door closes another one opens. It's been really enjoyable working on my cardiovascular fitness instead with some swimming and running!! I've never usually been a big fan of either but it's amazing what keeping an open mind can do!! - - - Obviously I love lifting weights and it's frustrating when you can't get in and smash your normal routine or what you enjoy doing. - - - However...never be afraid to pivot and try something else that doesn't impact your injury...rather than just throwing in the towel altogether. I always hear the excuse that people can't train because their knee's playing up or they've got a sore shoulder etc etc. There are countless ways to exercise that are easily accessible to most people.... so I'd say unless your completely incapacitated or bed ridden...then get creative and find ways to move and keep on track no matter what!! - - - #fitness #training #homefitness #gains #followforfollow #swimming #running #noexcuses #nutrition #consistency #mindset #sixpack #fitfam #fitnessmotivation
