20.01.2022 Great News the 2021 NAIDOC theme has been set ! The #NAIDOC2021 theme is: HEAL COUNTRY! which calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction. Country that is more than a place and inherent to our identity. For generations we have been calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of our culture and heritage. ... We are still waiting for those robust protections. This year’s theme also seeks substantive institutional, structural, and collaborative reform something generations of our Elders and communities have been advocating, marching and fighting for. Healing Country means finally resolving many of the outstanding injustices which impact on the lives of our people. It is about hearing and actioning our aspirations which are the culmination of generations of consultation and discussions among our nations on a range of issues and grievances. After 250 years, our children and our future generations deserve better. We look forward to acknowledging the theme and celebrating with you all back in Pana during NAIDOC week. Thanks The RRKAC Team

13.01.2022 Good Morning, It is with a heavy heart that we advise that we will not be going ahead with NAIDOC 2021 in Pannawonica, given the current covid situation we cannot guarantee the safety of our RRKAC community as well as the Pannawonica community. This decision has not come lightly but when we can not 100% guarantee that no one from the Pannawonica community or FIFO workers (and vice verser) have been to any of the current hotspots in Perth or in contact with anyone who has bee...n in the last week we have had to seriously look at the impact it could have. Our community is our priority and it would be irresponsible of us to go ahead and risk the health of you all especially our Elders. We do apologise for any inconvenience that this makes and we can understand the frustrations, we where so looking forward to being able to go and celebrate back out on country. I would like to thank those staff and members who have been helping me plan the event, your support and dedication does not go unoticed. We thank you for your understanding. The RRKAC Team

10.01.2022 Roebourne is on Cyclone Watch ARE YOU CYCLONE READY? UPDATE ISSUED AT 3:18PM TODAY FROM BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY : TWIN TROPICAL CYCLONES THREATENING WA REGION... Coastal communities in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions are being warned to prepare for an intensifying tropical low to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours. It is due to make landfall as a tropical cyclone during Saturday morning. A cyclone watch is in place for communities from Bidyadanga to Roebourne. The tropical low is predicted to strengthen into a tropical cyclone during Friday as it approaches the coast. The system is then expected to strengthen further to become a Category 2 tropical cyclone overnight Friday into Saturday prior to a coastal crossing. At this stage, the system is forecast to bring destructive winds with gusts up to 164km/h. Heavy rainfall is expected near the cyclone path with 150-250 mm likely isolated falls of up to 400 mm in the 48 hours from Friday morning. Heavy rainfall has the potential to cause flooding close to the cyclone track, including along the west Kimberley coast late tomorrow afternoon. Some communities and towns may become isolated and widespread secondary road interruptions are likely. Primary bitumen roads may be impacted for a period. Remember to NEVER drive into flood waters. Driving into flood waters has led to fatalities in previous year As always Cyclones are unpredictable and the location and strength can change quickly so please do not be complacent, get yourselves ready and help your elders and families do the same. Please keep an eye local alerts as they come out. Thanks The RRKAC Team.
