21.01.2022 I've recently returned from a painting trip to Arkaroola in the Northern Flinders Ranges of South Australia. Here are some examples of the paintings and the locations. The large works are thickly painted in acrylic paint with added texture from the dust, stones and ants. The small oils are made in the studio from sketches and photographs. To view the complete set of 15 paintings and more on site photographs please go to the works page on my website, www.roberthabel.com.au
21.01.2022 I'm working on the last couple of pictures from the salt lakes series. This begun in January this year with a week painting on site at the salt lakes in the Western Victorian Wimmera region. Here are some finished medium sized oil paintings from this series.
19.01.2022 Last week I visited Francis Lights tomb in the Protestant Graveyard in Georgetown Penang. A few days later I returned after making 20 small paintings based on British flags and placed them at the foot of his grave.
11.01.2022 These new oil paintings titled 'Dirty Foreign Money' are based on a recent trip to Bali, Sulawesi and Kalimantan. The main landscape motif is featured on the well used, abused and over fingered 1000 rupiah bank note.
08.01.2022 The Launceston exhibition starts in a week, runs June 7 - July 7.
06.01.2022 This is a painting made during my artist in residency at the Tanks Arts centre in Cairns, 2012. It's part of a series of four large oil paintings (2x2.8 metres) that have the former oil storage tanks as the subject. After being rolled up in storage for a couple of years it's seen the light of day again, stretched up on it's way to a new wine cellar door at 102 Main Rd Handorf.
04.01.2022 The latest series of oil and metalic spray paint on canvas pictures have now been completed and can be viewed on my website at www.roberthabel.com.au. This series of nine works are based on a summer excursion to Ben Lomond, a ski mountain near Launceston. I enjoyed the aesthetics of the bleak, isolated mountain top with it's abandoned looking ski village and infrastructure.
