22.01.2022 Look what I found! It’s like a car barnfind for an architect. I knew they were around somewhere. Some classic old blueprint drawings of some classic old pubs in Queensland. I wonder if the pubs still exist? #oldpubs #oldpubsofqueensland #oldpubsofaustralia #oldblueprints #queenslandarchitecture #australianarchitecture #architecture #architecturaldrawings #architectsdrawings #pubarchitecture

18.01.2022 With many art galleries and museums around the world closed at the moment, I thought that I would share one of my most amazing art experiences. The Yayoi Kusama: My Eternal Soul exhibition was amazing with many hundreds of her large format paintings on display for visitors to enjoy. It was truly incredible. Please enjoy. #museumfromhome #virtualgallery #virtualartgallery #virtualartmuseum #nationalartcentertokyo #yayoikusama #yayoikusamamyeternalsoul #robertdaytravel #japanarchitecturetours

13.01.2022 I have discovered The Safe Place. The negatives and prints that I took nearly 40 years ago have been discovered after being out in The Safe Place around 20 years ago. I can’t wait to get some printed. Many of the old prints have discoloured. #blackandwhitephotography #oldbrisbane #lostbrisbane #moretonbay #architecturephotography #architecturaldetail

11.01.2022 Memories of Arita Memories are so important. Especially at this time when travel is not possible. Memories can take us back to so many incredible places where many enjoyable experiences where had. Every morning, when I go into my front yard, I am reminded of Arita, a wonderful little town in Kyushu in the south-west of Japan. Arita is world famous and is known as the birthplace of Japanese porcelain. Over the years that I have been visiting Ariat, I have been picking up sha...rds of porcelain. These shards litter the landscape throughout Arita and stem from a practice where lesser quality pieces where smashed and just thrown up into the landscape. Some are clearly recent with a vibrant blue colour but others are very old, maybe even a couple of hundred years old, where the patterns are hand painted and the cobalt blue is faded and less vibrant, typical of the Edo period. I have even found some shards of celadon. Arita is one of my favourite places to visit in Japan. It’s a special place for me where I have made good friends and established strong business relationships. I can’t wait to get back again to this wonderful little village. Hopefully it might even be this year for the 2020 Autumn Leaves Tour. Who knows? Let’s hope! Make some new memories. 10.01.2022 30 years ago today, on 20 October 1990, I boarded a plane bound for Japan to work in an architect’s office for 1 year. I had no idea what to expect. I had never been out of the country before. I knew nothing about Japan plus I had only eaten Japanese food about twice in my life. It was a massive culture shock. Any thoughts of trying not to stand out were quickly dispelled (as you can see from some of the photos) Being the only foreigner in my neighbourhood didn’t help either.... In fact, I was a bit of a novelty. My time living and working in Japan was full of highs and lows and I ended up staying for nearly 1 and a half years. During that time, I developed a deep connection with Japan and formed lifelong friendships. My time living in Japan changed my life and I am so glad that it did. Japan and my Japanese friends have been good to me over the past 30 years and I can’t wait to get back I there again soon #lifeinjapan #livinginjapan #robertdaytravel See more
