11.01.2022 A long overdue update. Earlier this year, in a pre-covid time far, far away, I was awarded the Wagner Society's 2020 Bayreuth Young Artist Scholarship to attend this years 2020 Bayreuth Festspiele. Some of you following along at home would know that Wagner, in particular the character roles of Mime, Loge, David etc, have become an increasingly large focus of my working life in recent years, so this was a really thrilling development that I thank Miki Oikawa and the rest of th...e good souls at the Wagner Society Melbourne from the bottom of my boots for. However, as we all know, 2020 has turned out to be a cruel mistress, particularly for the arts, and the entire Bayreuth Festspiele was cancelled for 2020 ( i nevertheless held a similar event this past August where i sang and acted all the roles of all the Wagner operas in my bedroom, but i think only the good citizens of North Fitzroy and the two attending police officers who came to tell me to 'shut the f*@k up' were privy to that showcase of vocal splendour and bold artistic choices). I have all my various bits crossed that I will be able to attend the 2021 festival in the capacity of both a singer and a director, and look forward to serenading you all with Mime's graceful act 1 aria, 'Zwangvolle Plage, Müh Ohne Zweck'.
