22.01.2022 Isn't it funny how Hume Coal says "stick to the facts", when all the information about mitigating the risk of a coal dust explosion and the potential impact on ...the main Sydney - Canberra - Melbourne highway comes from their own EIS report! Is Hume Coal saying their EIS is not to be believed??? #90Days #WeWontBeSilenced #Battle4Berrima #HumeCoalThreat #WaterNotCoal #SaveTheSouthernHighlands #WrongMineWrongPlace #LockTheGate #WaterNotHumeCoal #CoalFreeSH #stopminingthesydneywatercatchment #nswpol #shapedbysustainability #supportlocal #localbusiness #localnotmining See more
20.01.2022 BREAKING: Hume Coal admits that drivers across the Highlands will experience growing delays at the region’s rail crossings. A review of the Hume Coal EIS shows... that the total time rail crossings between Moss Vale and Robertson are closed, will increase by a third from 69 minutes to 93 minutes each and every day. What impact will this have on our emergency services if the Berejiklian Government approves the Korean owned Hume Coal proposal?
19.01.2022 It's not every day our Director of Research fact-checks the Prime Minister on national television... MALCOLM TURNBULL: The [Adani coal mine] project, if it is b...uilt, will create tens of thousands of jobs. It will generate over the course of its life an enormous amount in taxes and in royalties: revenues for federal and state governments. ANDREW PROBYN: How many jobs was that again? MALCOLM TURNBULL: Tens of thousands of jobs. ROD CAMPBELL, THE AUSTRALIA INSTITUTE: The 10,000 job estimate comes from a modelling exercise that Adani itself disowned in court. They knew it wouldn't stack up in court, so they brought in another economist to do a different kind of modelling, and his estimate was a little under 1,500. Adani have stated their intention to automate the entire project "from pit to port." That's their words. They're intending to use remote-controlled or robot-controlled trucks, trains and loaders. Their stated intention is to reduce the amount of employment involved in this project. Watch the 7.30 story in full, here > http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2017/s4652955.htm

15.01.2022 Bill Ryan, a veteran of the Kokoda campaign, now 95, says "We went away to save Australia"... "If we don't put a stop to these megamineswe'll end up with a great catastrophe for Australia." #StopAdani www.lockthegate.org.au/stop_adani_wrecking_our_water
14.01.2022 Nine things from the EIS... This statement: ..it is not anticipated that the proposed project will cause any significant adverse impacts to the local environmen...t or community... Kinda doesn't fit these statements 1. Treatment and release to Oldbury Creek was also considerd as an option for managing surplus water....treatment and release to Oldbury Creek may be required for those years where surpluses occur. 2...it is predicted that 93 private landholder bores on 71 properties will experience a drawdown of 2 m or more due to the project. The average duration of drawdown on the 93 affected bores is predicted to be 36 years, with the maximum duration being 65 years... 3. When mining ceases there will be a change to the LSC class over 58 ha of land disturbed within the former surface infrastructure area. The original land classes in this area (3 ha of Class 3, 37 ha of Class 4 and 18 ha of Class 5) will change to Class 6 largely due to a change in soil depth. 4. There will be some agricultural production losses during the construction and operation of the project, estimated at approximately $2 million in net present value... 5. Residual or unavoidable impacts include the removal of 64 paddock trees which may provide habitat for some threatened species. 6.As the coal seam is hydraulically connected to the overlying Hawkesbury Sandstone, some level of drawdown due to depressurisation of the target coal seam will occur. 7. The final closure and decommissioning phase will have net social costs. It will result in a loss of jobs and a consequent decline in economic activity. 8. An Aboriginal cultural heritage assessment found the project’s impact on Aboriginal cultural heritage values at a landscape level...20 sites will be disturbed to some degree by the surface infrastructure area... 9. The project is justified on economic, social and environmental grounds.
13.01.2022 Here's a helpful video which explains how coal mine rehabilitation works using the metaphor of a large heavy thing in a washing machine in someone's backyard. T...he washing machine is the mine site and you'll see it's not harmed, hardly much, by the low impact, delicates wash cycle, coal extraction process. See more
