14.01.2022 Flowering Blackwoods in central Victoria You might think that the forests of central Victoria are all towering Eucalypts showing off their long trunks with the mere spray of foliage at the top. But at this time of year, in early spring, some large dense trees make themselves known as their fine lime-yellow flowers emerge. Acacia melanoxylon, otherwise known as Blackwoods, are substantial trees when mature that rival the height of Eucalypts. A line can have the appearance of a solid wall of leaves, and with the foliage stretching down close to the ground, provides a useful way to contain space, block a view or simply be admired.
