15.04.2022 Some little snippets, scraps, sketches, floating limbs and other assorted collage ephemera from Tilly’s First Day Twist! I illustrated this forthcoming book (written by Kylie Covark) using a combination of watercolour, colour pencil and collage. Each figure was assembled from multiple tiny drawings it was almost like making paper puppets. I had lovingly filed away the finished illustrations many months ago, but tidying up my studio today (to tackle the next book) I came acr...oss a collection of discarded bits and pieces that never make it to the page. Sometimes the colour was off, or the proportions slightly wrong, or they just didn’t fit the pose or the overall composition. Each piece had been sketched, transferred to specialty paper, carefully coloured and individually cut out. Is it any wonder I couldn’t bear to throw them away? Sometimes these scraps and remnants tell a story. 12.04.2022 This Christmas I received the best gift ever a long-awaited advance copy of my second picture book! A very special surprise delivery from Raising Literacy Australia arrived last week and in the current climate of Omicron anxiety I was so very fortunate to be able to open it with my family on Christmas Day Check out the story in my instagram highlights if you missed it! 03.04.2022 Today’s the day the CBCA Book of the Year Awards will be announced at noon AEST! I’m so honoured to be shortlisted for the CBCA Award for New Illustrator. 25.03.2022 News flash! I am so thrilled to have been selected for the 2021 Comic Arts Workshop, an intensive group residency for graphic storytellers. I first applied for this opportunity in 2015. Back then, I was sent a very kind rejection note with a block of chocolate attached. 02.03.2022 here is my #artvsartist2020 ! I haven’t been fantastic at the social medias this past twelvemonth, but it has been a pretty dang special year for me creatively & I sure hope to carry that energy into ‘21 Here are snippets from my two picture book projects with @ekbooksforkids and @littlebookpress (one published, one still under wraps ) plus a couple of details from my illustrations for @agsa.education ‘s new resource, Art School in a Box. I always think these photo grid...s look better when there’s one clear style but that’s just not how this year has been for me & I’m not about to ‘curate out’ the variety!
