23.01.2022 A new definition of pain has been confirmed. . An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage. . "- Pain is always a personal experience that is influenced to varying... degrees by biological, psychological, and social factors. - Pain and nociception are different phenomena. - Pain cannot be inferred solely from activity in sensory neurons. - Through their life experiences, individuals learn the concept of pain. - A person’s report of an experience as pain should be respected. - Although pain usually serves an adaptive role, it may have adverse effects on function and social and psychological well-being. - Verbal description is only one of several behaviors to express pain; inability to communicate does not negate the possibility that a human or a nonhuman animal experiences pain." . Raja et al, 2020. . https://journals.lww.com//The_revised_International_Associ Repost from @act_for_pain ! Thanks guys

06.01.2022 #Repost @osteopathyau There are a few common misconceptions about osteopathy. Let's clear them up together. Did you know that osteopaths work on more than bones? Did you know that osteopaths can prescribe exercise rehabilitation as well?... We don’t only do manual therapy! See more

04.01.2022 The perfect sleeping position doesn’t exist and you certainly don’t have to maintain a particular alignment. I’ve been sleeping without a pillow recently. And I’m a side sleeper. That means my head and neck are dangling far from neutral, my trunk is twisted, and who knows what my arms are doing. You know what, though? It’s comfortable for me and that’s all that really matters.... Do I sometimes help clients explore different positions to find what’s most comfortable for them? Absolutely. But people generally move 2-5 times per hour and adopt 7-8 different sleeping positions throughout the night. You are not going to maintain your carefully designed setup. I don’t care if you prefer no pillows or 10 pillows. I don’t care if you prefer sleeping on the floor or a soft mattress. I don’t care if you prefer sleeping on your stomach or your back. I care about you finding the position that is most comfortable for you. Certain individuals might need to make TEMPORARY modifications due to surgery or pain, but there is absolutely no correlation between a particular sleep position and risk of injury. Some people will have you believe that you’re so fragile that a tiny deviation from neutral (which doesn’t exist) is going to lead to pain and injury. I don’t think you’re fragile. I think you’re quite resilient. Don’t lose out on sleep because you’re worried about your alignment. Just find what’s comfortable for you. Repost from @dr.surdykapt

04.01.2022 Lovely post by @physicaltherapyresearch Physical Therapy for Tendinopathy ... INTRO: Tendon pathology is a common problem among the population. Think: Tennis Elbow Jumper’s Knee Achilles Tendon etc. There are many treatment options and factors to consider. With the key goal to improve the capacity of the tendon and muscle to manage load. Girgis et al. (2020), completed an umbrella review of 45 systematic reviews in the last decade to see how effective physical therapy is to treat tendinopathy, as a single disease entity. RESULTS: Moderate-quality evidence may support these treatments: Eccentric exercise was supported by qualitative evidence only. Low Level Laser Therapy for pain and short-term function. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy for pain and short/medium/long term function. LIMITATIONS: Results pooled, however there are possible pathological differences in tendinopathy at each region. HIGHLIGHTS: Moderate-quality quantitative evidence was found for some interventions. Eccentric exercise was supported by qualitative evidence only. The superior intervention and optimal protocols remain unknown. Thoughts? Questions? Comments? Write them below. . SOURCE: Girgis and Duarte, 2020.
