25.01.2022 With restrictions slowly lifting, the Robinvale Swan Hill Rifle Club played host to a few visitors from other rifle clubs on Saturday 13th June, while still keeping to the numbers required. With members from Karramomus, Shepparton/Nathalia and a few members from the old Swan Hill Rifle Club, it started to look a little like the old days. The weather once again decided to test the skills of those attending with the wind coming in from behind the shooters, then a cross wind c...loser to the target, very similar to the last shoot. With a slight overcast sky to keep things cool, shooters were keen to take to the mound and prove their worth! There were three classes on Saturday, T-Rifle, F-Std and F-Open, with competition ending up fairly close amongst a few. Although the club was going to host a competition shoot this year, unfortunately Covid 19 put those plans to rest for 2020, but 2021 may be a whole new story. The club aims to bring back competition shoots and slowly improve the range along the way. They have already managed to obtain two electronic targets through grants and donations, with some local help, they have also reshaped and fixed the butt stop (where bullets end up once fired through the target) and continue to keep the range and surrounding areas clean. Their next goal is to update the butts area (where they used to pull down targets and tag the shots) and also the club shed area. A lot of history is in the butt area as you can see totals and names written on the metal and wood, so we are hoping a small section can be preserved. The club may have been quiet for a number of years, but now they are slowly rebuilding, not only the range, but also membership. Like many businesses, Covid 19 has impacted on the rifle club. Every shoot the club would have a bbq lunch and monies were paid for shooting and lunch. While the restrictions were in force, that income was no longer happening, which in turn impacted the club. Now that the restrictions have lifted a little, income is slowly trickling back into the club and shoots are back on once a fortnight, much to the delight of members! 18.01.2022 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of one of our great friends from the Maryborough Rifle Club, Max Hedges. Max was our pennant scorer and han...dicapper and his time and efforts were very much appreciated, as shown every year when he was unanimously voted in for the job! He was free with good advice, a chat, a laugh and was a very much loved member of our pennant group. We will miss you and pennant wont ever be the same without you. 14.01.2022 It is with great sadness that the VRA announces the passing of Max Hedges from the Maryborough Rifle Club at the age of 81. Max has been a member of the VRA sin...ce 1971 and has always been a friendly smiling face within the Association. Max has been the secretary of the Maryborough RC for 49 years. Our deepest condolences to Max’s family and friends, he will be sorely missed at Maryborough RC and within the VRA community.

14.01.2022 VANDALISM AT THE RANGE The perfect weather on Saturday was overshadowed by the vandalism on the range. This is the second time, the first being last weekend. Members had reconstructed the ‘Butt Mound’ (large compacted sand hill behind targets to catch bullets) and had put large tree logs around the area to discourage anyone in attempting to drive up and over the hill, as it would be dangerous. Those logs had been removed on both occasions and both times the vandals have le...ft tyre marks causing damage to the mound. The butt mound is there for safety purposes and to have people senselessly damaging the mound is a set back to the rifle club. A report will be made to the Police this week and the club will be seeking their advice on the matter. After the disheartening vandalism, the members soon got back into the rhythm of shooting with social distance! Recently Frank Conner had commissioned Doug Chalmers to build a custom made shooting table, which Doug gave to Frank on Saturday. It was quickly set up and Frank eagerly put it to the test. 10.01.2022 The shooters were having a great time until the weather came in!

09.01.2022 Saturday 16th May, has seen a lot of smiles on the members of the Robinvale Swan Hill Rifle Club. The VRA (Victorian Rifle Association) has given the green light to resume shooting but with the restrictions that have been put in place for recreation and sport. No more than 10 people with the social distancing of 1.5 meters. All electronic equipment to be wiped/sanitised (with care for moisture) or if using score cards etc, the same. Any restrooms to be cleaned and sanitis...ed frequently. Clubrooms/kitchens etc to be cleaned and sanitsed. And anything else that any members have used is also to be sanitised after use. There are many more rules, but you get the picture. So, with members chaffing at the bit, set up got underway very quickly, followed by cleaning/sanitising (sorry ladies, we didn't get a picture of the men cleaning). Then it was time for some much needed practice. With full capacity of 10 people, both electronic targets were up and running and the members were beaming as the sound of rifles firing echoed on the range. Even the weather played along, starting out with a cold bite but warming up to a perfect day, along with the competition between members. Future shoots will be organised, but within compliance of the restriction in place of 10 people maximum in attendance. 08.01.2022 27/06/2020 Saturday 27th June was one of the few near perfect days for shooting that the members have had at the rifle range in a long time. The weather played along with little to no breeze and after numerous days of misty rain, the sunny skies were a welcome sight. Even the slight mirage in the afternoon was a challenge eagerly accepted by club members. Once again the competition between some members is staying very close, showing that the skill and knowledge accumulated over time, has made them strong competitors in the long range rifle competitions they attend. This also makes the weekend shoots a bit of a challenge as well. Below in the picture are two seasoned shooters, Adrian Tickell and George Conner.

05.01.2022 #OnThisDay 105 years ago, the last Australian troops withdrew from Gallipoli in the third and final stage of evacuation. The decision to end the campaign was m...ade on 8 December 1915. The first and second stages of evacuation saw the ANZAC garrison fall from 41,000 to 26,000 troops, leaving enough men to hold off a major Turkish attack for about one week. The two nights following 18 December signified the final withdrawal of troops, and on 20 December only a handful of men were left. The ANZACs successfully evacuated from Gallipoli and the evacuation was declared complete. #LestWeForget

05.01.2022 Restrictions are still keeping the numbers to a nominated amount, which seemed to have just made the members more eager to shoot. They have a system that allows members to take in turns for the shooting weekends. This allows everyone a chance to shoot. On Saturday, luckily the club had a break in the rain and decided that with no wind or rain, it was a good time to shoot at 900 yards. Although there was one misty shower during the day, everyone took to the mound and as you can see from the results, there was some close competition between a few members. 02.01.2022 Saturday's winds on May 30th proved frustrating for the members shooting from 500 yards. Although the range is known for some tough cross winds, the weather decided to thrown them a curve ball and also bring wind in from behind (roughly north). So even as the wind was pushing down the range, the cross winds would also come into play near the target. A challenging day all up making sure that seasoned members not only utilised their knowledge and skill, but passed it on by h...elping others who were finding the winds difficult to master. At this stage, shooting is still being held every fortnight, though a list has been made so that numbers are kept to the requirements specified and ensure that everyone can attend in turn.
