21.01.2022 When we first moved into our home patch on the #fleurieupeninsula of #southaustralia a little over 2 years ago we partially set up our veggie garden in pots until we had the permanent #foodgarden beds sorted, we noticed the #strawberries in pots we being knocked over at night and the #fruit mysteriously disappearing. 11.01.2022 A few months back I stumbled upon a beaten up slab of timber at a #salvageyard and I suspected it was #kauri. Turns out I was correct but not sure whether it is #QueenslandKauri or #nzkauri ... either way it is a beautiful piece of timber with over 100 growth ring across it's width and some interesting #spalting #grainvariations and colours despite being a little twisted. The plan was to make an enormous #sidewalksurfer from it but unfortunately it also had some rot in one c...orner that rendered some of it unusable. As I was stripping the years of dirt and grime of it I decided to leave some of the rip #sawmarks in at and then put it aside for a month. I had made a couple of #beachthemed #skateboarddecks using blue food dye on lighter coloured timbers and had promised to do one myself after the most recent one for @leighto_bro last year. ( scrol thoght photos in this post to see that one ) The leaving on of the saw marks ide came from a custom build I did in 2017 for a fella in Melbourne ( scroll through see the longboard with cutter and saw marks I put in to make it as the customer wanted #rustic ) After saving what I could I have finished with a 48" x 11" monster and yes I know that #softwoods aren't ideal for #makingskateboards from but this one is just for me and at a tad under an inch (25mm ) thick it will be fine for my #welterweight body. 04.01.2022 It's always cool to hear a new #birdcall and know it is'nt one I have heard before then get to photograph it and identify it is a new species for me. This morning I heard this #spinycheekedhoneyeater whose calls are varied and one a bit like a #Butcherbird. I grabbed the old #pentaxdslr and went over to where I thought it was and did my best imitation of it's call. It flew in quite close then alighted to a #casuarina tree 50 metres away. I got close enough to take the 2nd sh...ot of these 2 then it moved again where I continued to imitate it's call and a second bird came in.
