Today, the most commonly used needle is a stainless steel thread-like needle that is mostly very fine varying from 0.12 mm to 0.35 mm in diameter, depending on which area of the body they are to be used. The needles are usually left in place for between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the conditions being treated. Most find it a very relaxing experience! Well one HUGE difference is the level of education for practitioners! ... you can expect a trained practitioner with a minimum 4 year bachelor degree or equivalent who is also registered by the Australian Government, caring for you.... ... however, is an area that lacks thorough training and regulations - usually it's just a weekend course!
