24.01.2022 R U OK? The last 12 months have been an even stronger reminder to me that theres more to it than just asking someone how theyre goingfollowing up and being equipped to ask the next questions is crucial. . Right now, almost everybody is going through something - so remember that before you can look out for others, you need to look out for yourself and make sure youre in the right headspace to do that. If youre not sure who to talk to, Lifeline are always there on 13 11 14... . Swipe for the R U OK conversation steps & keep having meaningful conversations! #RUOKDay #mentalwellbeing See more

23.01.2022 I truly believe that being in love starts with self-love: never rely on someone else to make you complete! You are enough #happyvalentinesday #selfcare #selflove #healthyliving #mindbodysoul

23.01.2022 Each year we honour the sacrifice that others have made, in war & peacekeeping around the world so that we can live in peace & freedom. Im proud to call this amazing guy my husband. 21.01.2022 How do you deal with injuries?!? Im curious... For me, not running for the last 2 months has been mentally challenging - for years it has been my meditation & although I love doing weights etc I find nothing replaces running for me. But after a year of little niggles & then a big injury in November Ive had to adapt & change my mindset...... What has helped: ...support from my amazing physios @therunningroom & motivation from @izzydelana ...reset my goals for the next year ...Focus on how I can make sure this never happens again! ...reminding myself of what I have to look forward to soon ...being grateful that I can still do SOME exercise even if internally Im throwing a tantrum sometimes coz I cant go for a run #runnersofinstagram #runningmotivation #exercisephysiologist #sportsdietitian #rehab

21.01.2022 A quick stretch should always be done with a good view A lot of runners stretch before running but static stretches are best done afterwards (if at all). . . . In a nutshell: static stretching (holding a stretch) doesnt reduce your risk of injury, or reduce muscle soreness after exercise, but it might promote relaxation & specific flexibility -which means if youre stretching just because everyone else is, you might be better off spending your time doing something else!... #sportscience #exercisephysiologist #runningtips #stretching #runnersofinstagram See more

21.01.2022 There are so many ways to include wholegrains in your diet - like drowning your quinoa in a curried lentil & veggie soup! I do love quinoa - its actually a seed which is prepared/eaten like a grain so technically its a pseudo-cereal/pseudo-grain. Either way its delicious & provides more protein & fibre than brown rice! #vegetariandiet #healthyeatingideas #veganfood #healthyfood #dietitiansofinstagram

20.01.2022 Pasta is good for the soul instead of using cream we blend up silken tofu with nutritional yeast (sub for vege Parmesan if you eat cheese) & veggies sautéed in garlic & olive oil The tofu gives your pasta an extra protein kick so youll feel full! #eatcarbs #planteater #plantbased #dietitianapproved #veganrecipes

16.01.2022 What are you doing to look after yourself right now? Social media allows a lot of false info to spread BUT Im sorry: consuming tonnes of supplements (e.g. vitamin C), doing a detox, fasting etc etc is NOT going to stop you from getting sick. Having a healthy immune system is much more complex and it definitely doesnt happen overnight. . Real tips though? Eat as much plant based foods - fruit & veggies especially - as you can get to feed your body nutrients. A well balanced... diet will give you enough of these. Cut back on alcohol Get enough sleep Manage stress [+ check in on your friends/family!] Exercise + plan enough recovery . & If you are likely to be deficient (e.g. athletes with heavy training) then taking some extra vitamin C, good quality probiotics & vitamin D can be of benefit. . BUT none of this is as important as washing your hands & keeping your distance! . Stay healthy people . 12.01.2022 FOOD...yum yum Something I am grateful for today: that Ive gotten to eat so much good food I think many of us are starting to appreciate all the little things weve taken for granted, like toilet paper & catchups with friends. . . 11.01.2022 Heres another way to have salads in winter that are filling: Avoid cold watery veggies like cucumbers and instead use warm lentils, roasted cauliflower, chopped dates & toasted almonds (+ tahini & lemon juice dressing) #saladrecipe #vegetarian #dietitian #sportsdietitian #healthydinner #eattherainbow #eathealthy

11.01.2022 Hummus is amazing - especially this super smooth one from last week at @babylonrooftop If you dont eat it already then heres why you should make it your preferred dip: chickpeas loaded with fibre, some protein & minerals like folate, magnesium & iron - filling, great for blood sugar levels & weight olive oil of course for antioxidants & healthy fats tahini for calcium & more healthy fats, lemon juice for vitamin C & garlic for heart & immune health... The best type is homemade but if you buy it, choose brands that are made with the ingredients above, a high percentage of chickpeas (it should be the first ingredient) & avoid ones made with vegetable oil or loads of preservatives! #healthyeating #fibre #guthealth #hummus #dietitiansofinstagram See more

09.01.2022 This pesto has a secret ingredient: Artichokes! These are a great source of prebiotic fibre (inulin) good for feeding your healthy gut bacteria. But fresh artichokes are a little bit of work to cook, so I love using canned ones and blending them into a pesto is a great way to sneak in an extra ‘veg’ to your next pesto pasta #healthyfood #guthealth #fibre #healthydiet #dietitiansofinstagram #plantbased

08.01.2022 After 18k in the cold this morning I was craving porridge - optimum recovery involves a combination of both carbs & protein, & with so many people afraid of carbs I feel Im forever telling my athletes to eat more of them! Carbohydrates are key for: refuelling your body - decreasing fatigue & reducing recovery time improving muscle repair & training adaptations alongside protein intake supporting your immune system after exercise... If you are active then dont be scared about including quality carbs in your meals - especially around your exercise! one delicious warming bowl of porridge made with quinoa flakes, soy milk, chia seeds & topped with linseeds, fruit & maple syrup. #veganbreakfast #runnersofinstagram #sportsdietitian #sportsnutrition #fitnessmotivation See more

04.01.2022 CAULINI: its the bomb, like cauliflower & broccolini had a love child! But its actually still a cauliflower? : & as a brassica vegetable it has many health benefits (like anti cancer, immune function, heart health, digestion & blood glucose control) thanks to things like sulforaphane... : Fun fact: sulforaphane is a photochemical that is only activated by myrosinase enzymes which the plant cells release when they are damaged, so you need to cut/chew your brassicas to get the health benefits! : Its like we were made to eat them : Max benefits when raw, so lightly steam or stir fry quickly so you dont lose too much enzyme action! #isolationcreation #immunesupport #healthyfood #dietitiansofinstagram #eatyourveggies See more

03.01.2022 SOCIAL distancing is hard but its important! Each of us has a role to play. . Im super grateful to not be in complete lockdown here in Syd but I feel an obligation to avoid crowded places ( Bondi beach, big shopping centres etc). It means a bit more thinking before deciding where/when to go out. Our escape is the quieter walks & connecting with nature while we still can, then straight back home . How are you adjusting your routine to social distancing?... . #healthyliving #quarantine #naturewalks #sydney #balancedlifestyle #exercisephysiologist #dietitian #healthcoach See more

03.01.2022 At least once a day I tell someone to eat more resistant starch! Like in this grain & cauliflower salad Naturally in wholegrains, legumes, firm bananas + you can create more resistant starch by cooling down your grains/potato/sweet potato after cooking! Sooooo cold rice/quinoa etc is better for your gut & your waistline too.... Resistant starch escapes digestion and acts like a type of fibre - providing fuel for the bacteria that live in our large bowel, which ferment it (break it down) to byproducts that help support a healthy digestive system, allow gut cells to thrive and protect it against diseases. #guthealth #healthydiet #prebiotics #healthygut #plantbased #dietitian See more
