It was a great pleasure working with Adelaide based furniture designer and maker Robyn Wood @robynwoodstudio on this work for the show HOLD. I try to resuse as much as possible in my art practice - in 2003 I had several tables made for my show 'Milk' at Artspace and it was always my intention to re-use them. Over several weeks this year, Robyn and I had many chats about reworking the original table as the kind of 'foil' on which the delicate objects I had been working on would be placed. We discussed the kind of legs and railing that might be used and stain/finish. Robyn did all the new joinery work and staining (whilst the table top underwent a bit a repair and stain by another local business). It's great working with someone who is very open with suggestions and who takes the time to understand the practical as well as aesthetic/conceptual considerations of a work and talks them through. There was also a lot of trust involved - I didn't see the final work until the day before install- and what a beauty it was! Thankyou again Robyn! 21.01.2022 Now more than ever The Mill needs your support. (sorry to bang on about this but) ...I am soooo looking forward to galleries, pubs (with music) and theatres being open again. Being in The Mill artist studio I see first hand all the blood ,sweat and tears that go into crafting concepts, developing ideas so that the public can enjoy, think and be moved. It's a hard time for a lot of us but please continue to support the arts and artists anyway you can because if we don't they won't be there when we want to be entertained.
