19.01.2022 Todays heroes. Thank you to our support boat drivers who went over and beyond today. All of our support boats had the paddlers interests first and foremost.... These 2 ladies just spent 10 hours on water. Thanks is not enough. Love your work team. #ROCCsolid

08.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who particpated yesterday. Mid Last year, SQ Zone put out EOIs for this event. Our Club, Redcliffe Outrigger Canoe Club Inc, immediately jumped on it and got the all clear to run it. We had faith that this was a good race from the get go. The brief was that SQ Zone needed an Elite event, something that has been lacking.... Many months of planning and discussion with 2 x councils and the Port Authority were had. This race passses through Brisbanes busiest shipping lane. A major concern. We had discussions with the Port Authority who were happy with systems in place to allow this. They were very accomodating. We got 2 x VMrs and 1 x Coast Guard on board to help with setting buoys and keeping an eye out on paddlers. Through Facebook our President Lawrence had discussion with the guys from Molokai, who emphasised SAFETY dont let anyone compromise you on your SAFETY. We knew numbers werent going to be big. We had estimates of 50. This is inaugural, our waters aren't known for the gems it hides. We know, though ! We knew the gamble for the club. We also knew we were going to get some of the best from Australia. We ear marked this race for a top calibre of paddler. Some suggested making it easier to allow more paddlers take part. We held our ground and stayed firm with our criteria for participants. We held firm with our pricing. You cannot run these events on a budget. Throughout the week we saw the winds. Dream conditions were afoot. Friday catchup with Coast Gard revealed expectations of 18-20 knot southerly turning to 20-25 knot south easterly at midday. They asked what this would mean for the race. Our response. PERFECT STORM. We had faith in the paddlers entered. Fastest race ever. We did it. You did it. This first year was our test. Next Year ... Bring it on Please post all videos and photos and hashtag. We'd love to see them. To our clubbies who volunteered to allow this event to happen, from support craft to land crew, Thank You. #Battleofthebays2020 #ROCCsolid

05.01.2022 Saving our most grateful appreciation post for the last. Our race was within 2 hours of being cancelled. At lunchtime on Friday we were made aware that 3 x support boats all equipped with radios etc that we had hired were cancelled, as they had a policy about anything over 20knots.... Now we were all at work and had to quickly scramble to find 3 boats. Bryon Gilbert, Pete Dorries and myself immediately swung into gear. All beit while working Straight away Bryon was able to secure a boat from his brother who lives out west and had plans which he put on hold. Brisbane OCC also immediately freed up their IRB for support. Other clubs were sympathetic of our plight but were unable to assist. We had to get another boat. Literally 3.35pm in my car on way home from work I called Dan Campbell, our lead boat driver and told him our dilemma. We had a meeting at 5pm and if we didnt have another support boat that was the end of the race. Within 10mins he called back. He had secured our boat. So we need to send an almighty thanks to Lea Gilbert, Brisbane OCC and Dans Friend !!! Without them, we would not have had a race. Community Spirit awards on point. #ROCCsolid #Battleofthebays2020 #PaddlingCommunityWhanau
