A lot of cleansers contain ingredients that raise the PH levels in the skin (which is why you get that squeaky clean, tight feeling after cleansing). This is damaging to the skin barrier as it disrupts the acid mantle of the skin. The toner is then used to bring the PH levels back to 'normal' levels. Our cleansers don't alter the PH level of the skin outside of normal levels. 19.01.2022 Most soaps have a pH between 7, being neutral and 10 which is quite alkaline. Studies have shown that when you apply a pH that is not the same as the skins pH of 4.5-5.5 it completely disrupts the acid mantle which is the protective layer of the skin. One application of bar soap can disrupt your skin for over 6 hours leaving you at risk of increased bacterial colonisation. If you are an acne prone skin this will result in an increase of acne bacteria making you break out. If ...you are not acne prone you are at risk of rashes and reactions. Continued usage increases the symptoms as the soap penetrates and deposits into the skin partly remaining there. You know the soap scum you get on your bath and shower? This is the exact same stuff that is stuck in your skin! All soaps are saponified, they leave a waxy residue on the skin. We don't recommend bar soaps on any skin regardless of the type. They are ALL alkaline. Even when advertised at a lower pH once they are tested these soaps present with a higher pH than advertised.

13.01.2022 One of the biggest myths is that oily skin does not require moisturisation. This could not be further from the truth. You only need to see the number of acne clients with dehydrated skin to see that moisturisation is about water content of the skin and not oil content. A moisturiser for acne prone and oily skins needs to be non-comedogenic. Many moisturisers regrettably designed for acne skins have comedogenic ingredients in it and yet claim they won't cause breakouts. So d...on't listen to claims of non-comedogenic as they are meaningless. Oily skin if dehydrated will produce more oil in an attempt to stabilise the skin barrier. Dehydrated skin also takes longer to heal. So don't ditch your moisturiser, instead look for something that normalises your oil flow and gives you increased moisture content in your skin. Your skin feels much smoother and softer after you exfoliate, because of this many consumers think that if a little is good then a lot of exfoliation must be better. Over exfoliation however can cause some serious damage to your skin and can predispose you to premature aging and also to developing an overly sensitive and reactive skin. Enzymes don’t harm the skin and will not eat living cells. Chemical Peels on the other hand can ...damage your skin barrier. Peels over 8% will actually disrupt your skin barrier making it more sensitive and heal less effectively. The exception to this is Salicylic Acid Peels which are safe. Generally speaking, HA has a high molecular weight (large molecule) which means when applied topically it cannot penetrate the epidermis our skin’s natural barrier from pathogens. This means it provides more of a superficial hydrating effect, rather than the anti-ageing effects often advertised. It has even been proposed that it may even degrade before fulfilling its desired effec...ts.
