25.01.2022 Learning using a Cardboard Box Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. (Albert Einstein) Cardboard boxes inspire creativity and imagination as children transform and reinvent them into something else.... From the moment we ventured outside after morning tea, the Children were full of excitement at the discovery of a 'really big' cardboard box next to the sandpit. We noted the unusual shape and wondered at the prospect of what it could be. The children climbed inside.... and announced that it was "A Rubbish Truck!" They worked together to fix the side of the 'broken' Truck and then all climbed in, engaged in pretending to be Rubbish Truck workers. They filled the truck with '"rubbish" and drove it round to collect more. Of course-One of the Toddlers favourite moments of the week is patiently awaiting the Monday arrival of the Rubbish Truck...and here he comes! They used their IPad to learn where rubbish goes. Imagination and Knowledge together makes learning fun!

24.01.2022 Joy in looking and comprehending is nature’s most beautiful gift. Albert Einstein Our confident and very involved Kindergarten learners have been making many connections between concepts they discovered earlier this year and have been applying these to explore secrets of nature's mazes, spirals, vortexes and whirlpools. They found references to whirlpools on maps and set out with the aid of books, experiments, technology to discover the many amazing forms of spirals and whir...ls that are all around in nature, like shells, tusks and.... worms Applying physics and the mechanics of a lazy Susan and salad spinners to create artworks that represent spirals and whirlpools. Andy Goldsworthy photos and books were a wonderful inspiration in creating spiral patterns. Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better. -Albert Einstein Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher.- William Wordsworth

23.01.2022 Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun. -Mary Lou Cook Our Children LOVE Rainbows, so it was fun to create a special Rainbow garden. We used tree branches from our Kindy area to create our coral inspired sculpture in our Rainbow Garden. We have added colourful plants, and while these are still small, with lots of love and care, they will grow to their potential rising up through the sculpture and creat...ing glimpses of little hidden garden surprises as the breeze moves through the garden. As spring approaches - we will add creative art from the children.

21.01.2022 Celebrating Reconciliation Week. Our Kindy children had a wonderful time making Johnny Cakes after reading a very special Indigenous story about how to make them. They decided Johnny Cakes are great fun to make and they were AWESOME with honey!

17.01.2022 Spring is here and what better time to appreciate our natural play spaces that each room has. The trees, the grass, the dirt, the sand... Freedom to explore! Freedom to imagine! Freedom to learn and develop! The book, Growing With Nature: Supporting Whole Child Learning in Outdoor Classrooms, describes the emotional, mental and physical benefits for children of even simple nature-based activities such as digging in soil:... Outdoor classrooms designed with ample spaces that encourage sensory play help children make synaptic connections that support optimal brain development. Providing children with the freedom to dig, for example, allows them to experience the rich smells, textures and temperature variances of soil. This important sensory information will later serve as a link to new vocabulary words and science understandings. Digging also supports full-body muscle engagement, an important component of healthy physical [and emotional] development. Exchange Press September 1

16.01.2022 We went walking. What did we see....... Lots of flowers, spiders and trees. All rugged up, we ventured forth! It was chilly and the wind was blowing a bit, but we didn't mind. The sun was shining and an adventure into the community beckoned. We pointed to the spiders and heard the birds. We saw so many different flowers. By the end we were ready for lunch and our eyes were drooping... Time to sleep. Exploring our community opens up our eyes to the world around us. It activates our minds, engages our thinking skills as we use all our senses to explore.

16.01.2022 IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY...." (Our Teddy Bear's Picnic ) While the children were all asleep, look who was waiting outside on the Toddler verandah....... And when our Nursery friends came into our room, we helped them to apply their Teddy Bear face paint too! It was time to head outside and sit with our Teddy Bears.... Today's the day the Teddy Bear's have their Picnic".... Stories and songs, Dance and Craft.. Cooking and....EATING! What a wonderful experience to encourage our language, communication and social skills with both educators, friends, and even our Teddies. We all enjoyed using our imagination as we role-played.

13.01.2022 Tomorrow Friday the 14th August is RED NOSE DAY. RED NOSE DAY is a charity event that raises awareness and money to inform communities about SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Every year many young children die from unexplained deaths. So what better way to acknowledge this important annual day, than to make our own RED NOSES and support this important cause.... To make our noses today, we used an egg carton cut up to represent our nose. But of course, we had to paint it RED.... Add elastic and we have our own Red Nose to take home! (We also had fun with face painting our noses red!) One of the simplest ways to support Red Nose day is to make a donation. Every dollar will help go towards grieving families and provide education to parents and carers. Help stop little lives being cut short. To make a donation please visit rednoseday.org.au Spread the word for Red Nose Day!

12.01.2022 Connecting with our Community- Toddlers thank Steve the Garbage Man with a Thank You Sign! Community connections give children support, a sense of belonging, a strong sense of self and a sense of connection. They feel emotionally and physically safe and valued, and they develop social abilities as well as having a sense of sharing and caring for each other. In the Toddler room, we LOVE watching for the Garbage truck! We play Garbage truck games and talk about the Garbage Truc...k. We have seen the truck on our Community walks and each Monday the Truck stops outside the fence while Sam the Garbage truck man has his break. We wanted to say THANK YOU because he takes our garbage away. We made a big sign to put on our fence where he stops. We watched and listened for the Rubbish Truck. We could hear a noise and we ran to the fence. It was the Rubbish Truck! We were so excited, we all jumped up and down calling out to get Mr Steve's attention so he could see our sign. And he did...he gave us a wave and a Beep Beep to acknowledge it. THANK YOU, Mr Steve for emptying all the bins in our local community and for beeping and waving to us every week. The children display a great interest in their local community here at Rochedale Community Child Care Centre, and we achieve this by either walking around our neighbourhood together on excursions visiting our local shops, or by engaging in projects to support and acknowledge our local workers within our Community.

10.01.2022 The Nursery has been facinated with the many skinks we have and they have been creating a special area where the Lizards can eat, drink, hide or laze in the sun on rocks. We discovered he LOVED strawberries. It was so exciting to see our first visitor! we hope to see him again soon!

09.01.2022 A beautiful discovery made by one of our Kindergarten children on Yuggera and Yugambeh country today. The children marvelled at the beauty of this unusual moth!

09.01.2022 Reflecting on Trees and Nature. The Centre's wonderful trees are a feature, a learning resource and a connection to an inner sense of wonder. Nature in all its forms challenges our children's imagination, problem solving and way of thinking. It enhances their self sufficiency, belief in their abilities and promotes a developing understanding of the concept of respect, and growing competence in personal safety.... Climbing a tree requires physical skills but creates a sense of achievement and wonderful moments of calm and reflection

05.01.2022 Look at our Garden Now! Our enthusiastic Toddlers love their connection with the land, and dug the dirt and planted the plants... and pulled them up to check them.. and planted them again. They got tired of waiting for them to grow so they made their own flowers. They watered and fed their plants with worm juice. Some plants came from our plant nursery where we put our cuttings. They visited and watched and waited and... LOOK AT OUR GARDEN NOW! ... They are so proud and run their hands over the flowers to ''see'' them through the senses of touch and sight. They smell their flowers and smile!

04.01.2022 When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking. Albert Einstein Fantasy and Imagination the tools of children's play and Learning! Constructing a Lady Bird House with sticks, leaves and stones

03.01.2022 Over the last few months our Toddlers have connected with Nature as they have paid particular attention to the the fascinating world of Spider's Webs. They are so excited to discover another of natures surprises high up un the trees. They learn personal safety and though they show no fear, they are aware that we never touch 'real' Spiders. However.... there was nothing stopping them making their own special spiders web!

03.01.2022 With an abundance of nature's resources in our playground, add in their imagination, the children use them all to create a fabulous, wonderful world of play in our outdoors... All the while learning the life skills both big and small.

03.01.2022 Celebrating National Tree Day National Tree Day is a call to action for all Australians to put their hands in the earth and give back to their community. As part of the Centre's environmental planning, trees are used as much as possible to create natural shade. It is seen as a connection to our land, to our environment and a way to inspire in our children a love for the nature. Our children love to climb nominated trees, use bark such as paper bark in art, play and learning ...and learn about trees importance in our native ecosystems and our lives. As part of National Tree Day, a 2 meter Flindersia Australis or Crows Ash tree was chosen. This beautiful tree was planted in the garden bed that we have been using as a digging patch. And when our tree starts to grow, it will provide us with shade during the summer months.

02.01.2022 It's EKKA time of year and while we can't attend this year as usual, we decided make our own version of their delicious strawberry sundaes... All of our Toddler friends seemed very excited as they sat patiently at the table waiting to have their turn of selecting 5 frozen bananas pieces and 1 frozen strawberry to place into the blender. A little milk and.... BUZZZZZZZZZ! Healthy Strawberry Ice cream!... Our homemade Ice-cream was sooooo delicious, we enjoyed every last bit.
