On this day, participants attempt to make the world a better place by celebrating and promoting good deeds and pledging acts of kindness, either as individuals or as organisations. 16.01.2022 In recognition of NAIDOC week Rochedale Kids ELC invited Craig Weribone-Wright, from the Gamilaraay Nation, and Wiranweena bloodline to share his culture. This special incursion focused on helping the children understand that their apart of a wider community, which has direct ties to local indigenous communities. The incursion also offered the children a chance to connect with an indigenous member, and develop stronger understandings of their culture, traditions and ways of life. Thank you Miss Kristy Neale for organising this amazing experience!

According to folklore, in ancient times Lohri was celebrated at the end of the traditional month when winter solstice occurs. It celebrates the days getting longer as the sun proceeds on its northward journey.

07.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK - Our Belvedere and Reggiane children, teachers and Rochedale Kids ELC community feel so honoured to have, special guest Mrs Kimberly Engwicht from the Bundjalung tribe in Northern NSW. Kimberly interacted with our children by sharing her stories about herself and her family. She shared her baby pictures with her Great-great Grandmother and Great-great Grandfather. Kimberly shared her place of birth and her memories of her aboriginal Great-great Grandparents. Sh...e showed the children the Australian map with the different colours corresponding to the different tribes and Aboriginal languages spoken. She shared her story of being an Aboriginal digital artist who draw and illustrates Aboriginal art. Kimberly showed us her work at ABC Kids titled ‘Languages of our Land’ which showcased numbers and Australian animals in their Yugambeh language. Our children were engaged in counting, listening and repeating the Aboriginal names of our Australian animals like: Koala = Borobi King Parrot = Bilin Bilin Echidna = Gaguhr Magpie = Kulamburum Turtle = Pigin Kangaroo = Muni Dolphin = Gawandi Tree = Jali Frog = Jahrany Butterfly = Bandjilam Thank you to Layla’s Mummy Kimberly for spending time with us today #NAIDOCWeek2020 #kidselc

04.01.2022 Our Educators Morgan and Hannah embarked on a journey of discovery exploring Aboriginal culture with a guided walk along a picturesque beachside rainforest walkways wrapped around the magical mountain, Jellurgal. They learned about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast, hearing about traditional life pre-contact, bush tucker, fishing, hunting and important ecological practices. Such a valuable experience that Morgan and Hannah will share with all of the Educators and children at Rochedale Kids ELC. #kidselc #jellurgal
