20.01.2022 Fantastic achievement Waugh George. Looking forward to watching your progress.
17.01.2022 Cricket is a game loved by millions all across the world. To chase an elusive Baggy Green is a childhood dream that only few are able to realise. For those of us who dare to dream a little more narrowly, something just as special for local cricketer’s, is the chance to play each Saturday afternoon with a group of mates, where often the most enjoyable part of the day, is sitting around at the conclusion of a match, attempting to conjure up excuses as to why their dismissal d...uring the day was someone else’s fault. Or even much more simply, to enjoy a beer with their mates after a long day in the sun. Two such characters within cricket in Rochester, embraced and epitomised the idea of cricket being a segue to building mateship and comradery within a club. To know Matt Dingwall and Matt O’Donoghue was a privilege, to be mates with them was something even more special. Both men could easily sit and chat with anyone without discrimination, always bringing a true sense of inclusion to any visiting team on a given Saturday afternoon. Saturday the 23rd of January will mark the third ‘Matt Day’ event, where mates of the men join together for an exhibition 10 over cricket match played in their memory. Just as they would have had it, there is a competitive streak on the field, though as soon as the stumps are drawn, it’s all about mateship and sharing memories and no doubt some justification of dubious shot selections. This year, the game will follow on from last year’s A Grade GMC Finalists, Rochester and Fire Brigade, with both sides sitting in equal top position on the ladder. The A Grade match will begin at 10:00, with the ‘Matt Day’ start time set for 5:00pm. Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
